Odd schedule for Orlando. They do Friday until almost the end of January and then switch to Tuesdays and then switch to both Friday and Tuesday in March.

Prior to Covid, Westjet had 2x daily YYC year round with some sun routes + Vegas added in 2017. Mind you, Vegas was announced in October, only a few months prior to the route starting, so there are still chances WS will add *something*, although with their new vision, I don't expect it.

Yes, at various times WS has operated at different levels from YHM. From building up the hub to reducing it, to moving short-haul to YYZ, dropping down to just YYC, building back up by adding YEG and YHZ back into the mix to dropping back down to YYC to building back up with Swoop. WS responds to competition in the market...and will come in and 'defend' the territory when they need to.

However, WS is really not interested in any sort of regional flying in Eastern Canada as it had been in the past. At YYZ the only remaining flights going east are to Ottawa (once a day), Halifax (once a day) and St John's (once a day). These flights exist primarily to feed traffic (sun flights and some domestic westbound) at YYZ. At this time in its history WS is focused on beefing up in Western Canada, building a "global connecting hub" at YYC -- with Eastern ops primarily being to connect fliers into the Western Canada network (..and some remaining sun flying at YYZ). YHM -- for the time being -- will operate for WS in much the same way YXU and YKF do (YQG continues to be served seasonally from YYC)...as a Calgary spoke.

The lousy frequency exists in no small part to keep fares (and profitability) high...and as a reaction to continued understaffing on the crew side.

I've considered using Hamilton Airport to explore other parts of Canada, such as points west, since it's closer to our family cottage in Port Colborne, and I'm used to using slightly less crowded airports for convenience (like BWI instead of Philadelphia, down here where I live).

I have used Billy Bishop Airport to fly Porter to places east: Montreal, Quebec City, and Halifax.

I have never used Pearson.

What is Hamilton like price-wise compared to Pearson and Billy Bishop? How does airfare compare within Canada, and how does parking compare? How crowed does Hamilton get compared to other Canadian and American airports?

under the (now disappearing) Swoop schedule, it's pretty busy for a small airport. It's still small though - don't expect it to be a zoo. The one time I flew out there were a couple hundred people hanging around in the departures lounge.

parking is very expensive for a small airport - Pearson actually has cheaper rates in it's discount lots.

price-wise, Hamilton generally is a hub for discount airlines, so it's pretty cheap. When I flew out I got round-trip tickets from Hamilton to Las Vegas for $230 CAD ($175 USD).

Thanks. Looking at some receipts, it looks like I was paying about $12 per day t BWI, and $23 per day at Philadelphia (both in $US), for long-term parking.

What are parking rates at Pearson?

As a side note, while I quote your post, I see the post is #10000006. So you were 6 away from having the 10 millionth post on this website, it appears.

the cheapest rate at Pearson is the discount surface lot (connected to terminals though the terminal link distribution train) which is $25/day ($19 USD)

Play from KEF is going to be somewhat delayed this afternoon. My daughter is on and said they returned to the gate, and are still there. Departure was supposed to be 50 minutes ago.

Edited; they departed KEF about 70 minutes late and look to be making some time up, with arrival shortly after 6pm. I had to chuckle when my daughter said they were getting fuel after they returned to the gate. Maybe extra winds or the captain was planning to put the hammer down, so better top off the fuel lol.

That flight is usually on time or early. Today has to be the latest since they started to YHM as they will be 45 mins late to the gate.

My daughter said the Play flight was full, which is good to see. Took about 40 minutes for her to get curbside as she was in the last group to get off the plane so she had a lineup at Customs. Apparently the delay in KEF was a "paperwork" issue with a couple passengers, who were called to the front of the plane when they returned to the gate, but they ultimately remained onboard.

One chuckle they got was the passenger in front of them thought that when it said "departure 1510 arrival 1730" on her boarding pass that that meant the flight was a little over 2 hours and was quite upset to find out the flight was 6 hours lol.

WestJet’s winter schedule should be out today (Sunday). I expect the 4x a week to Calgary already announced plus 4 southern destinations. 2 should be Florida. Not much in frequency. They will not amount to 2 flights a day.

Our reliable source back at it again

Westjet has filed the following schedule via OAG. They are not bookable yet.

Hamilton-Orlando (MCO) - Sundays, Thursdays, Fridays
Tampa (TPA) - Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays
Cancun (CUN) - Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays
Punta Cana (PUJ) - Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays

The frequency is comparable to that of Swoop on these routes. I'm a bit surprised that there isn't any Vegas flights.

Thank you for this, wondering aloud if Sunwing also files/releases a schedule for YHM

I believe the Sunwing schedule is already out (haven't checked).

These WS adds are a positive sign. Hoping we get some domestic flying back going forward.

WestJet sustains sun routes in Hamilton, ON

The WestJet Group has enhanced its winter schedule serving Hamilton, ON, sustaining the region’s key sun connections as the airline works to complete the integration of its ultra-low-cost carrier, Swoop.

WestJet has served Hamilton for 23 years, and while the integration of Swoop has resulted in a reduced schedule serving the community, it’s a “temporary measure,” the company said Monday (July 31).

"Hamilton was integral to Swoop's success and remains a valuable part of the WestJet Group's future," said John Weatherill, WestJet Group executive vice-president and chief commercial officer. "As we work through this transitionary period, WestJet's service from Hamilton will be centred on our strategic focus of providing non-stop domestic connectivity to Western Canada and the sun destinations we know our guests rely on us for to escape the winter cold."

Hamilton-Calgary fights

In addition to its sun schedule, WestJet will also provide non-stop connectivity between Hamilton and Calgary, operating four times weekly.

With frequent service to Calgary, operating year-round, WestJet says it will ensure Hamilton is "one seamless connection away" from its 787 international hub, granting access to travel across Canada, the United States, Central America, Europe and Tokyo.

Sunwings schedule for the winter of 23/24 from YHM
  • Cancun
  • Cayo Coco
  • Holguin
  • Punta Cana
  • Varadero

Identical to last winter.

Air Transat has not announced anything. Their web site shows the same 5 destinations as last season. I hope the wait is to see what WestJet/Sunwing are doing. I really don’t see Sunwing doing anymore as they have a limited amount of aircraft the government has told they cannot lease aircraft with crews like they have done in the past.
