The city has awarded the contract to construct the parking deck on Coosa Street and they have advertised to recieve bids to construct the facade renovation at two buildings on the Court Square with metal awnings and iron posts.....I look forward to seeing this project completed.
There was talk of that Coosa Street deck having retail and maybe lofts, is that still the case?
Neatest though was the fact that the city is preparing to start planting a bunch of tree's downtown. They've removed large blocks from the sidewalks all around the plaza and up Court street to in front of Hijack's place. It'll be neat to see this spring.
They planted some trees up Lawrence a few weeks ago...between Alabama Power and Compass Bank. I am a Horticulturist so I love the thought of having more trees downtown. What concerns me is getting the water for the trees. Last year the city had one guy watering the hundreds of trees planted last fall and winter. As you can see from riding around many of these trees didn't make it. I sure hope the city allocates more than one guy this summer.

Thought this was interesting. This building sides up to the Kress building and faces Monroe St. This side was exposed when the building on this lot was torn down many years ago. It's looked horrible for a while, but it looks like some renovation is going.
Today I went to see hijacked and his condo's.
Here you can see where they've prepped for adding trees.
If much of the office space is empty ( Regions, Union, Colonial, One Court Square , Bell Building to name a few and these names may not be current ) why are they building more Parking decks ? And what is the status of the Belk Building , is it historic or can it be tore down ?

BTW, I passed by the new hotel downtown a couple of nights already, and the foot traffic along the street was rather well. Those folks were looking for some more places to spend their money down there...(where's that alleyway? Oh yeah, there it is, behind SCHEDULE).

the building in the pics that has the new metal framing is the old montgomery fair building. josh mandell owns it and he is building 14 condos for rent. they are 600-900 s.f. and will rent from $650 to $1000 i believe. if i remember correctly he was talking a fall 2008 opening. good news for everyone.
i asked boomer if he was going to put up an awning the other day and he said no, they are too expensive. I hope he changes his mind, it really needs one.
I can't purchase just yet... I'm only 21--so the renting aspect is really tempting! How much are your Court St properties? How much will your Perry St. properties be?
The Court Street Lofts may all be full in the next few days depending on a few possibilities I am working on but if not I have a 1000 s.f. for $1200 and a 1700s.f. for $2000 a month.
As for Perry st. those are going to be around 1200 s.f. each and i haven't determined the costs yet.
