Actually, the nomination to the Historical Commission indicates that the Mansion House section of the property probably incorporates portions of the 18th century (ca. 1769) mansion of the West family.

I went to the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid 2 weeks ago and they had a large Calder in the courtyard, it was pretty nice. I was not familiar with the Calder fam work prior to this announcement a few months ago but I think it'll be a great add

Walked by about a month ago and there was digging going on. Couldn't get a decent pic as it was fenced / blocked off.

Mods, feel free to take down if OT, but I think worth mentioning, as this hopefully contributes to the greater good of the city.

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet.

I assume most people will be happy about this, but I have to say, I have mixed emotions about it. Outlaw came on at a very difficult time in our country and city's history and was put through the ringer by the FOP. To me, it feels like there have been break throughs recently, with how the gun crimes division is structured etc (city wide versus by precinct) that are having a meaningful impact. I was actually hoping the next mayor would keep her on.

When working in that type of bureacracy, it takes a lot of time to navigate and to see the fruits of your labor. I do feel as though this has just started to happen in her case in a meaningful way.

Gross. But I guess at least there's still plenty of space behind it for a better project. And I mean if a strip mall is gonna go somewhere in the city it might as well be next to a bunch of other strip malls. C'est la vie

edit: lmao it's labeled as Chicken Pier on google maps now, I wonder if the author realizes the joke

I think i like the second option the best. The 3rd is interesting, but i think it only makes sense if Vine got reconfigured all the way to the parkway.

The third option looks the best to me. Vine street has a serious problem with speeding since it’s designed basically as a long highway on/off ramp. That option breaks up Vine street so it’ll hopefully reduce some of that. Although we really need to see the layout to know. Is that refined vine street going to be 5 lanes or 2? It’s hard to really know until we have better renders.

What's interesting about Option 3 is that SEFTA made a post one time about connecting the rail park to the convention center, very good idea from him, and I think it would be interesting to implement, the only thing I don't like is that wonky Vine St design, it is just doing to much to try to make more space, I'd rather them move that portion of Vine St to the N side, and put the cap on the S side way less work and moving parts.

Yeah, that weird conversion back to the 2 road alignment is what bothers me about option 3. Any street alignment that results in those triangle patterns i know is going to suck from a. Pedestrian perspective.

One of the few new residential projects in U City that actually looks nice, and street trees.

Better/free article: https://whyy.org/articles/chinatown-...concept-phase/

This is great and all, but the street itself should be reduced to two lanes in each direction or its going to continue to feel like a highway on top of a highway.

There is a ton of game changing developments going on and in the pipeline now, obviously not all will come to fruition but even without all of them our city is going to look vastly better in 10 years.

1- 95 Waterfront Cap
2- Parkway Redesign
3- Arena??
4- Chinatown 676 Cap
5- Roosevelt BLVD Subway

Not necessarily singular developments but:
5- the buildout of University/LabSpace in West Philly
6- Developments along of N.Columbus BLVD
7- Navy Yard
8- Bellwether District

Smaller impacts but still pretty great:
Massive complexes going up in Olde Kensington
Building of No-Mans-Land between Old City and NLibs; including Spring Garden Greenway
Extension of the Schukyl Trail South

Surely I'm missing some, didn't put a lot of thought into this. I can be cynical when it comes to many things, esp when Philly Pols are involved, but it's good to take a step back and appreciate the bigger picture from time to time.

^Don't forget FDR Park makeover. The new playground that's about to open is going to be lit.
