They've placed some concrete benches on the plaza
- unfortunately they seem to impede emergency egress from the office tower & parkade emergency stairs.

So now that the tenants have settled in, is the surrounding area more invigorated with Nordstrom and the office tenants versus when it was Sears?

I don't see much difference, other than the fact that the shoppers at Nordstrom are more pretentious than the ones at Sears.

It is definitely more invigorated than when it was either Eatons or Sears. There are a lot more people using the little plaza than before, especially now that they put the huge christmas light ball in the middle. Surrounding area streets and sidewalks are also cleaner, without hobos camping around Nordstrom building, unlike further down Granville at The Bay. It is also very nice to see people working upstairs coming in and out of the entrance to the plaza.

There's always a homeless person next to Nordstrom on Granville.

Overall it is is visually improved but agree on the pretentiousness of Nordstrom. The WA ones don't seem as hoity toity but I guess they're aligning more with Holt Renfrew here.

That's because the Canadian locations are Nordstrom's newest concepts and store designs not because they are going higher-end. The Downtown Seattle store is currently being renovated to match the look of ours and the Eaton Centre location in Toronto. My guess is that smaller, suburban locations in the US will eventually look like Calgary's Chinook Centre location.

the nordstrom in bellevue has in store boutiques for fendi, gucci and burberry and a few other ones i forget. Downtown seattle has chanel. The more suburban stores like northgate and lynwood don't really carry any high end that i recall.

Probably (and I hope I'm right) is that the one thing Seattle does not have is DeBeers. Am I right or wrong?

yeah its the younger hipper sister store to crate and barrel, very similiar to west elm.

www.cb2.com

I was actually just reading an article about them, they opened a store in singapore on orchard road 3 years ago but are closing it, they are looking for a new location there because it was not suitable in the location it chose or the kind of shoppers who shop on that street, it said they prefer to open stores in hipper places where shoppers who "get" their store would shop.

It's absolutely a conscious decision to go higher end and not just because they are new. The Vancouver and Toronto Nordstrom stores are flagship, they are significantly different in both design and merchandising to their mainline stores. Only a few stores in the world will be designed and merchandised like the Vancouver and Toronto stores (I think 6 in the US and 2 in Canada so far).

Nordstrom (and most lux retailers) merchandise their stores different depending on local buying patterns. Just go into a Holts in Toronto then Holts at Pacific Centre. The product mix is totally different and very consciously chosen.

Bulletin sent around the office today:

McMinsen's pic shows the triangular vestibule being 10 window bays wide.
McMinsen's pic also shows the existing vestibule being 3 window bays away from the emergency exits and 1 window bay away from the chamfered corner (at Georgia).
But the rendering shows the new vestibule 3 window bays away from the chamfered corner (instead of 1 bay away).

So the new entrance will probably be a bit narrower than the existing entrance.

Doubt it - as it generates revenue for CF.
But the bulletin doesn't say anything about access to the Fido (off the hoarding corridor), so maybe it is moving.
