Too bad the surrounding area isn't conducive to restaurants, bars, shopping, etc... In some other place in some other time, the entire fairgrounds area could be a great lively place with bars and restaurants right next to the ampitheatre. Neat architecture too.

Some of the federal transit dollars NC received will go towards fixing the rail tracks around the station (which is the first step), but none of that money will go towards actually building the station. There is a good chance it will start construction in at least the next 5 years, but right now it is not under construction and it will not open this year.

By the way, I love Atlanta and I am hoping to move there soon (and this is coming from someone who has lived in Charlotte pretty much their whole life).
Just got back from a few days in Charlotte, and it looks like you're right. I feel better knowing we're not being out-classed just yet

Btw, Charlotte has a gorgeous downtown, although it's smaller than I expected. Hope you make it to Atlanta

I was in Charlotte last weekend, and thought the same thing. I thought it was going to be much bigger, but it only seemed like it was a few blocks long and wide. It also seemed very very new. It didnt have that old timey feel like downtown atlanta or new orleans. Everything seemed disney-esque

There is a webcam here.

It can be a little nausea-inducing depending on the wind conditions.

Why you say that? Is that like a no no or something? I have always wondered why there has not been anything taller built around there. I mean are they not known for their architecture?
