What? I was never aware of that. Two towers in that same lot? What is the other towers name?

From Burnaby Major Development Projects: REZ # 14-44 - Townline Homes

6050 Sussex Avenue, ptn of McKercher Avenue ROW, 4769 Hazel Street and 4758 Grange Street

Construction of a high-rise residential building and a new church facility for the West Burnaby United Church at 6050 Sussex Avenue, as well as an infill, market rental project comprised of a high-rise tower at 4769 Hazel Street and townhomes at 4758 Grange Street.

From a notice a few years ago (Burnaby doesn't like hotlinking directly to their stuff)
Quote:
The purpose of the proposed zoning bylaw amendment is to permit the construction of two high-rise apartment towers (one 31 storey rental apartment building and one 41 storey strata apartment building), with a church fronting Sussex Avenue.

There is an empty lot here north of Kingsway, and on both the left and right sides there are these rather old buildings (particulary the east one, really old. There is a tree blocking it. The blue building to the west doesn't seem as bad, but is in a really good location). This street has mid-rises, so perhaps we could see a tower here?

Here is an update on the construction site of Sussex.

......

There's already a thread for that project here....

http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=238559

It's better to post images of it there and populate that thread instead of placing them here.
There should also be one for the Sussex project you have above it, as well.
It could also use some updating love.

I know we've talked on here before about that stretch. I had to go back to the 2011 street view images to find anything different so it's been awhile that those few houses have been sitting there. I'd suspect the owners are holding out (or in the case of the grimy looking one next door, renting it out) until the very end.

That section can go tall but developers would have to own the corresponding property on Kingsway to have something big enough to work with. The buildings at each end of the block are likely staying, so I'm not sure if they'd fit two or three towers in the middle facing Hazel, with retail podium(s) facing Kingsway.

As in there already is one, or there should be one? Can you link to it if there already is one, I can't find it.

Sorry, but at the time I typed that I was under the impression that one had been started.

There was talk of starting one some time back and I thought it had been followed through on, but I supposed it wasn't.

Given it's one of the taller towers currently under construction (well, it's actually two towers now that we're learning of it), and where its located, it really should have its own thread.

Found some renders of a 24 story (I counted) building proposed by Wilson Chang Architects at 6688 Willingdon, don't know if this project has been mentioned before. Looks interesting.

Website here with a few more renders: https://wcai.ca/projects/residential/6688-willingdon/

This is the same architect (group?) that is proposing a multiple family residence at 6515/25 Burlington Avenue.

I'm bit surprised to see a highrise being proposed for that far down south of Maywood.
But then again I suppose I shouldn't be considering all the old 1970's towers that sit across the road west of Willingdon and just adjacent to Central park.
And also given the fact that it's only 24 storeys tall which would fit with the City of Burnaby's downtown core plan of towers tapering down in height as you approach Imperial Ave..

And yes, that's the same architect who proposed that multi-family project on that Burlington Ave. site just south of the KFC on Kingsway.
Although from the looks of it that project is either dead or has been indefinitely stalled for the longest time I can remember.

Well, there is supposed to be a 40+ floor tower right next door at Willingdon Ave and Maywood St, so this will look short compared to that. It is pretty amazing how the Maywood area will densify in the years to come.

....and if this is the one (from the architect's website) - which I suspect it is, then it was a hell of an ambitious proposal (...which I doubt would ever have gotten approved by the city).

It's for a 15-unit multi-family proposal for a 'Burlington' site and that's the only site in Burlington Ave. where you could fit a project of this size so I'm fairly confident that this was the one....

It's a pity it didn't go through or proceed further than this.
I like to see architects pushing the envelop a little and not just going for the usual cookie-cutter design that we see everywhere.

This building? https://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=116605
(Are there any renders for this?)
Found this: https://www.vancouvermarket.ca/2018/...sed-by-anthem/

Two buildings called Willingdon in such close proximity? That is certain to cause confusion.

That sounds like it could be Belford Properties' 'M Residence and Spa' project

(The third one on their website,: http://belfordproperties.ca/projects/)

The listed address on their site is also 'Cassie and McKay Ave.' so that would seem to fit the bill.

Belford have quite a few projects on the drawing boards for that area and this one seems to be the one most farthest along (aside from Sun Towers which are already under construction).

The overall proposed project map banner at the top of their wbsite seems the confirm the approximate location as well....

Found another proposal in the major developments page, don't know if this has been mentioned before (I apologize if it has). If this gets built, that lot containing the Met towers, Midori, Vittorio, etc... will get a new building in the northeastern corner of Met 2.
REZ #16-13
Ledingham McAllister Communities Ltd. is requesting to build a high-rise residential building with ground oriented townhousing and underground parking at 4960 Bennett Street and Portion of Lane.

Currently no renders.

Yes, that has been mentioned here before some time in the past.

The project doesn't seem to have progressed further than the rezoning application phase (they were seeking to consolidate the two lots where the two currently existing low-rise residential buildings now sit, and to rezone the consolidated site to allow a highrise residential tower with a townhome podium fronting Bennett street if I remember correctly - and with a mixed use categorization meaning the possibility of some retail or work/live units on Bennett.)

But as I mentioned there seems to have been no progress past that stage so if they did in fact get rezoning approval, then a design permit application hasn't been submitted which is why you don't see any renders.
It's quite literally the last buildable/re-developable pocket of land in that block which could end up with as many as 8 towers if this project were to proceed all the way to construction.

TBH I hope the city of Burnaby is looking at remaking Bonsor.

Such an old relic now
