I noticed it first about 2 weeks ago and was going to ask the name of the building...I think it is one of the best designs in SF, but that's just me.

I spent a lot of time near the construction site this weekend (fundraiser nearby) and the site is completely bare and pretty impressive in size. The whole thing is just screaming for a high rise, it really needs the Transbay Tower to add that vertical presence there.

Hella awesome panorama of the now-cleared Transbay site and the surrounding skyline, "Future City Plan Panorama" by pbo31 on flickr:

It's so true! If this building is not erected SF will become hopeless, everything great about the city will be lost! Oh what will we do without it?!
Oh wait.

I'm convinced. From now on, it's the Obi-Wan Kenobi Tower to me.

Has a lead tenant been secured for this project?

What is the timeline for construction?

Will the towers be built all at once or in phases?

1. I don't think so.

2. None that I know of or that has been made readily available.

Basically the tower portion of this project has been halted as far as I can tell.
The terminal is currently being built, but the towers, nothing doing there.

My Californian surfer dude side, will be very excited when this project gets underway.

Train station is nice all the same though.

Work continues, though nothing visually interesting is happening at the moment -- mostly utility and shoring work. However, I did find a couple of renderings at the Webcor-Obayashi project website that I hadn't seen before:

Very cool renders. I can see the plot where the transbay tower is planned to go in the second picture, but what is that brick building supposed to be behind it? They just didn't feel like rendering 100 1st?

Very nice looking building! Thanks for posting.

I go by there a couple times a week and it looks like they are hard at work, but like you said, not much to see yet.

Interesting not for what is here, rather what is not -- half the buildings at the end of the neighboring block:

There is lots of shoring work happening all over the place:

So, it looks like the Transbay Tower height has been reduced. Also, a rendering I haven't seen.

The Plan For San Francisco's Tallest Tower And Transit Center District

At the center of the 145 acre Transit Center District, the proposed Transit Tower to be on Mission between First and Freemont will rise 920 feet to its roof and to 1,070 feet including its sculptural element, becoming the City’s tallest structure (1,000 feet to the highest enclosed space) and yielding 1.3 million square feet of office and 16,500 square feet of retail.

Currently zoned for heights ranging from 30 to 550 feet, as plugged-in people know, in addition to the the Transit Tower the Transit Center District Plan would allow for an additional six buildings to rise over 550 feet and up to 850 feet on First bewteen Stevenson and Elm Alley.

1,070 ain't bad at all. I'm more disappointed that the design hasn't changed much. You can see more renderings by downloading this pdf.

Here are some of my favorites from the download.

What was the original height? I agree, at least it's still over 1,000.
I agree on the design being a little boring still, those SOM towers look cool though.

Any news on when it will be built?! Where is Socketsite getting this new information?
