Wow, they're not messing around. That rebar is going in quick.

I think ultimately the success of this project lies at ground level -

Hopefully not too stupid of a question, but how old are those wood piles and why are they still there? Why didn't they pull the rest of them up during the Spire construction?

Related is picking up where Shelbourne left off, which means they will start building the underground garage using the top-down method. There is a slurry wall around the garage perimeter, and 96 belled caissons inside the footprint with buried steel columns that will support the garage floors.

All of this is waiting under the ground, ready to be dug up and put to use.

I assume the wood pile removal is to prep the site so they can start digging down the garage.

I'll probably get flamed for saying this, and yes I know there's an ordinance about buildings east of LSD, but Dusable Park should have a development on there. It's so out of the way, I'll be interested to see if anyone actually uses it as a park or if it just becomes another encampment with a view. With 400 NLSD going up just across the street, whose view of the lake are we really ruining? I know, I know, the ordinance. One of my favorite parts of my commute home is when I go in between Lake Point Tower and whatever across from it. It lasts about 10 seconds but it feels great. IMHO I think if LSD were canyonized in a few very select places, like Dusable Park, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

I don't think it's a bad idea, but I still think a park at that location would be nice if 1.) the design is worthy of a really nice park at the location, and 2.) if there was some sort of pedestrian bridge from DuSable to the SW corner of the Lake Stage park area of Navy Pier...would be ideal to be able to have a pedestrian connection for all of the green space in front of the lake, especially at such a busy/dense part of the lakefront.

Somewhat agree that it won't get a lot of spontaneous foot traffic - like the southern part of Polk Brothers Park at Navy Pier - but it's also possible it could be used for special events and festivals as well (as Polk is used for too).

But it's accessible from the bike/pedestrian path and if there is something worthwhile to do there, a lot of people could 'stop off' there when they're going north and south. It will certainly be a phenomenal place for city photos. I'm not sure if there are any plans for boat docking there - tours could possibly launch from there as well or in the future.

Additionally long term the riverwalk on the north side of the river hopefully becomes more developed like the southern side with restaurants and bars. In that case a lot of tourists from Michigan Avenue could end up walking there and back as they do now on the southern riverwalk. It's important to keep that option open for years/decades down the line.
