Well...I did go downtown today, but no crown. So I shot some pics anyway. Enjoy.

Battle House Tower rising above the Battle House Hotel

There's scaffolding on the Riverview Hotel

The water that was pushed inland by Katrina was so powerful that it messed up the "liquid metal portal."

The big ol' hangar that was built across the river

That's all.

question: in the renderings of the tower on the battle house tower website, it shows all of the non-glass sections, i.e. the lines that go the length of the tower and the corner sections with the smaller windows, as being white. however, so far only the lines that run up the building are white, while the corner sections are grey. anybody know if they're gonna paint those or something for a more uniformed look to match the redererings?

its kinda weird cause on the rendering on the website it looks white, yet on other websites with that same picture, the tower looks more greyish. Like look at the first page or so of this topic, and it shows the same picture you're talking about that's on the website, yet the color is different. so I don't know.

A little bit of bad news...My sister-in-law works at the Royal Street Cafe. A lot of the construction workers come in there for a hot meal. She said that one construction worker told her that they're not going to be able to hoist up the crown in one piece because it's too windy. They're going to have to put the crown on piece by piece in smaller sections.

I kinda of think its cooler that way, having the crown come on piece by piece. It will look cool in pictures that way, having half a spire. but then again, that only means we have to wait longer.

Does anyone know when the actual construction of the crown/spire will begin? I guess the south crane is coming down, it's only about half way up the entire height of the tower now, pretty crazy that they are already taking them down!

i think they're gonna build the elevator shaft out of concrete as high as it will go before the crown is added--they were adding the second level of the shaft above the top floor when i drove by today

I agree with you Sahara727. I would imagine that they will use the north crane nearest the future parking deck site to hoist up the crown and spire sections, unless they use a helicopter (as I have seen mentioned hear previously). Has anyone seen any crown and spire assembly on the future parking deck site? Unless they have started on the parking deck, this would be the logical place to assemble it IMO.

I am excited about the crane coming down!! That means they are clearing the way for the crown and spire!!!!!!!

BTW, has anyone heard or seen anything about the proposed second tower addition to the Admiral Semmes Hotel?
