Looks like they didn't change anything from the original drawings. I know someone posted another rendering that looked completely different a while ago. I prefer this one better.

I thought the tower image looked a little different. Looks like more metal panel and less glass compared to some of the other renderings I have seen.

Also, Nick Wood said in the presentation for the variance that they wanted to build both towers at the same time, but the only reason the project is phases is for construction logistics since the City would not agree to let them close down 2nd Avenue for the duration of the project. So they will build Phase 1, then use the alley and new third lane for construction space to build the second tower. So it sounds like both towers will be build back to back, its just logistical phasing.

Any ETA for a start date for us to watch for? Even an educated guess?

It's exciting to think that Phoenix might finally get a new tallest. It's been stuck in 24 story land for far too long.

Seems like everything in the pipeline is taller than 90% of the existing buildings, so even if Astra doesn't happen we're at least seeing a rise in the mean.

The renderings posted above I believe are what were presented by Nick Wood when the height zoning adjustment was being requested. The renderings on Empire Group's page that I posted a awhile back are a little different than above. I'm inclined to lean towards the Empire renderings since the renderings on their site were posted about 6 months after the height zoning request renderings.

The most significant change with the renderings I posted from Empire shows the tallest tower base actually going to ground level instead of starting 10 floors up. I feel this would give it a better perception in height from ground level versus starting the tower base at 10 floors up. Either way, just build it!

Also, does anyone know what happened with their request for a GPLET? I'm not sure if that's went to the city council yet.

Sorry if I got anyone's hopes up with any updates but I just wanted to say that I saw Nashville's Four Seasons is almost complete and it is basically identical to what Astra's tallest is going to be with around the same height and design since they are both using the same architect. Man, that thing looks nice and the thin profile makes it look alot taller than 540 feet, this is going to make a huge impact on our skyline.

Phoenix Business Journal article about Astra. Groundbreaking expected towards the end of Q2 2022.

The article mentions height at 525ft....think it's just a typo?

I reached out to Empire Group and received the following response to heights from Randy Grudzinski:

Quote:
The North tower is proposed at 535' and the South tower is proposed at approximately 400'.

I think a lot of projects got pushed back due to covid. Astra appears to be on its way of getting built. I think a lot of hoped late this year but mid 2022 is cool especially the size of this project. Astra will stick out massively driving on the i10 to downtown Phoenix. I’m just happy that this is going through honestly. I’m surprised that they got that much for the Stewart lol!!
