The two cranes on the eastern edge of the site, will they eventually be on the east or west edge of the main tower?

They'll be on the west side of the tower.

You can already see the first columns of the main tower section rising up in this photo of corvairkeith's. The large reddish rectangular structure is the elevator core.

Whitley actually looks very nice there. I would have been ok with it staying in that view, but I'm so glad the Hyatt Place and Hampton Inn views are going away. Just yuck.

Agreed. I'd like for there be some use of that wall on the Hyatt, however. A banner of some sort. Hell, even an advertisement!

How about a 15 story Willie Nelson? Or perhaps a large guitar, similar to the huge clarinet on the side of the downtown Holiday Inn in New Orleans (which is just awesome, 3D drop-shadow and all).

That's just a decal? I was really hoping it was a waterslide!

It's a painted mural. Of course the view of any such work of art on the Hyatt Place (or Plaza Lofts for that matter) would soon be lost!

Here's some background info on the artist

...My favorite Dafford mural is the 150-foot-tall clarinet painted on the side of a Holiday Inn hotel on Loyola Avenue. This mural was dedicated in May 1996...

They're making some good progress with it. The tower section is actually pretty skinny, so it'll rise fairly quick.

Thanks for the pictures, Keith. I was hoping someone would post some. I was tired of just looking at that webcam.

It's starting to look like an actual building now. This project is fun to watch.

I just noticed that they've never shown us any renderings of the northern side. We have no idea what it's going to look like from that angle. That worries me a little bit. What are they hiding?

It looks to me like it's up to about 80 feet in that section.

That's pretty cool. You can actually see what the tower is going to look like. It's not all that big really.
