i was just at a movie downtown - we went in at 9:45 pm and there was signs of snow but nothing really

when we left at 12:20 ish there was a lot of snow everywhere - and loads of people out walking and playing in it

through the parts of the west end i saw it must have been a good 5 cm - my car was covered in at least 5 cm

i barely made it out of my friends parking lot and up the laley - i thought i was going to have to abandon my car

anyway the further east i went the less accumulation there was - but there were a few cars abandoned along the georgia vidauct

out here there is snow but not nearly as much as there was in the west end

tomorrow will be a low of -9 high of -5! and the rest of the week sounds cold and snowy

Quite a bit of snow is South Surrey this evening. I drove home from downtown and the roads were quite good around 11pm. Its cold as heck though, I took my young potted palm tree inside just in case.

I work in Delta (River Road, to be specific) and it snowed pretty well from 7pm until 3am this morning. By the time I got out of the factory my car was covered in 3 inches of snow on the roof!

The roads were the same, with lots of crunch stuff all over it. I thought for sure I was going to be screwed when I got into Central City (because it's a much higher elevation) and to my great surprise (and relief) it was bone dry with nary a flake in sight.

It was pretty weird... Vancouver had a layer of wet-ish snow on the road that my car had no trouble going through, then parts of Burnaby was bone dry, then snow again in Coquitlam and it was a really weird layer of slick, dry snow that gave my car a bit of a challenge (I have winter tires, but they're hardly broken in right now), then there wasn't much snow through Maple Ridge and Mission because most of it was so dry that the gust of wind was just blowing everything away.

Snowfall warning lifted, road conditions still slick and icy
Sunday, December 14 - 01:15:00 PM

News1130 Staff
VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Thanks to this dump of snow, road conditions are still slick and icy in many parts of the Metro Vancouver. Environment Canada has now dropped the earlier snowfall warning they issued saying the snow has ended in most areas and we can now expected sun and chilly temperatures for the rest of the weekend and into the week.

Larry with Busters Towing says drivers can carry heavy items in the trunk to help gain traction on the ice. "Salt, kitty litter, dirt, sand works, a piece of wood. My big suggestion all night has been pull over to the side of the road, park the car and walk home.'

News1130 meteorologist Russ Lacate says this arctic blast is sure to continue. "We've got many areas with a few centimetres on the ground from the flurries last night and this morning. But I think that through this afternoon and evening snow will fade into the background of the forecast. It's this arctic wind that's going to become even stronger later today. It's going to be gusting 40 kilometres in parts of Metro Vancouver and 60 kilometres in the valley. So for tonight the temperatures drops to -10 and we'll have a windchill of -20."

Drew Snider with TransLink says that service is getting back to normal; however people should expect some delays today.

Vancouver International Airport has had a few cancellations but plenty of delays so give yourself plenty of extra time today.

Several local police detachments tell News1130 they've received many calls of fender benders all across the region, but no serious injuries have been reported. Meanwhile the blustery winter weather is hammering other areas around the province. One caller to News1130 says the highway between Nanaimo and Duncan is almost completely covered in snow. "Plow trucks have been very late in dealing with it. In the Nanaimo area it seems like they haven't been on it for a couple of hours. And after Ladysmith it's still covered, the road is covered completely all the way through."

He adds that parts of Nanaimo have over a foot of snow! It's also been snowing in the Kelowna area since Friday morning, with over 15 centimetres accumulated so far.

There are also wind chill warnings for the BC Peace River, the Kootenays and the North Columbia regions, with temperatures feeling like -40 degrees.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

SNOW ON THE WAY

After a freezing Tuesday, the forecast is for snow on Wednesday (2-4 cm), more freezing on Thursday and Friday, then more snow on Saturday (10 cm) and Sunday (2 more cm).

What is it with us vancouver people ( the majority) and the love of snow? Do other people around the country and the world share the same anticipation and excitement when it snows?

Because snow either means school is canceled or an excuse not to go to work.
