They may have lost but that's a really close ending and they had one hell of a good year. I'm still happy.

I was at the game. It was a great turnout and a wild atmosphere.

Being there really reminded me that the new stadium needs to stay in the lower part of the city (waterfront or SJM). If they build in airport lands or in Burlington it will suck so much life out of this team.

The two point touchdown was definitely the highlight of the day.

At least we gave a GREAT playoff game, probably one of the best game of the year. Usually playoffs are way better than the actual Grey Cup game. We'll be back next year Grey Cup 2010 we're coming for you! I believe it'll be at Vancouver.

I was there as well, and brought two of my kids to their first ever ticats game. We had a blast. I'm still hoarse from screaming after the two-pointer. We'll definitely be back but would never go to Burlington or the airport. You're right mark, it would suck the soul right out of it. It's unimaginable really. Any new audience they might reach wouldn't begin to make up for the crazed Hamilton fans at Ivor Wynn.

:-| Ugh....

The 11-man play

November 16, 2009
Drew Edwards
The Hamilton Spectator
http://www.thespec.com/News/BreakingNews/article/673851

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats were a man short for a crucial overtime play during Sunday’s Eastern semi-final, their coach confirmed today.

Marcel Bellefeuille said the defence had only 11 men on the field when B.C. running back Martell Mallett ran for for 27 yards on the first play of the extra frame.

The Lions would score on the next play and go on to win the game 34-27.

Ticats sign Porter, Glenn
QB tandem extend their contracts

January 07, 2010
Drew Edwards
http://www.thespec.com/Sports/article/698406

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed quarterbacks Kevin Glenn and Quinton Porter to contract extensions, a source close to the team tells the Spectator.

An official announcement will be made today.

Porter, 27, began 2009 as the starter and played in 12 games, completing 64 per cent of his passes with six touchdowns and eight interceptions. But after struggling down the stretch, he was replaced by the 30-year-old Glenn. The nine-year veteran, signed last March after being cut by Winnipeg, also played in 12 games, completing 62 per cent of his passes with 18 TDs and seven picks.

The two quarterbacks combined to lead the team to a 9-9 record and their first home playoff date in eight years.

Both players were entering the option years of their contracts and were set to become free agents after the 2010 season.

Ticats give Setta the boot

Decision came as no surprise to fan favourite
January 30, 2010
DREW EDWARDS
THE HAMILTON SPECTATOR
(Jan 30, 2010)
Nick Setta stayed classy right to the very end.

The Ticat kicker and fan favourite was released yesterday after three seasons with the club, but had nothing but good things to say about his time in Hamilton.

"There's no bitterness between myself and the organization. They were the ones that gave me an opportunity and three great years," Setta said.

But perhaps that should be "mostly" great years. After earning all-star berths in 2007 and 2008, Setta struggled during parts of last season. A back injury suffered in the pre-season hampered his effectiveness early and he missed crucial kicks in road games against Toronto and Saskatchewan, both Ticat losses.

Though he finished the year hitting 15 of his last 16 field goals to raise his accuracy rate to 76 per cent, head coach Marcel Bellefeuille said a change was necessary.

"We ultimately felt we had to be more consistent in the kicking game," Bellefeuille said yesterday. "It came down to on-field production."

Setta said the news wasn't a complete surprise, particularly after the team brought in another kicker, Jeremy Ito, in October.

"When I talked to Coach at the end of the year, I had a feeling. There was talk of 'you have to get better,'" said Setta. "Nothing is ever a surprise in football."

Ito, who played in the Ticats' final regular season game after Setta was injured, will get a chance to compete for the full-time job in training camp - though Bellefeuille said the team has a plan to fill the void in the kicking game.

"There's an idea, no question, but not every part of it is under our control. You have to have a pretty good feel for how things may go," Bellefeuille said. "But we'll keep an open mind ... we are in the market for some kickers," he said.

Despite the uncertainty, Bellefeuille said he didn't think it was in the team's best interest to bring Setta to training camp.

"When you feel like you have to make a change and you bring veterans back, it makes it cloudy again," he said.

Nor did Setta's philanthropy save his job.

The 28-year-old Chicago native has run Nick Kicks for Kids the last two seasons, a program that provides new shoes to underprivileged children.

"The community aspect doesn't factor into the decision-making process, but character does. Nick's a player of high character and that makes it so much tougher," Bellefeuille said.

Setta, who had a year plus an option remaining on his contract, says he'll pursue both CFL and NFL opportunities.

"My mentality is to treat it just like a kick - once it's done, you move on to the next one. I can only control my future, I can't control my past," he said.

"It's just disappointing, because I loved the city and I felt at home there."

Markeith Knowlton extends Ticat contract

March 22, 2010
Drew Edwards
http://www.thespec.com/Sports/article/740529

The Ticats have signed all-star linebacker Markeith Knowlton to a contract extension, a source tells the Hamilton Spectator.

An official announcement is expected later today.

Knowlton was a CFL all-star last season after amassing 94 defensive tackles, four interceptions, four forced fumbles, four fumble returns, two blocked kicks and two touchdowns. He was East Division all-star in 2008.

Knowlton was entering the option year of his contract, meaning he was free to sign with an NFL club until Feb. 15. He had a workout with the Minnesota Vikings in December but no deal was reached.

The six-foot, 205-pound native of Arkansas was acquired in a trade with the B.C. Lions in exchange for the Ticats’ second round (9th overall) selection in the 2008 CFL Canadian Draft.

I like Knowlton. A Grey Cup berth depends if we can get past Montreal. Calvillo is pretty old, but then I said that last year too.

Ticats to fans: What are your stadium thoughts?

JOHN KERNAGHAN
The Tiger-Cats are asking their 5,000 season's-ticket holders what they want in a new Pan Am Games stadium.
The fans, who buy about 10,000 seats for home games, have been invited to complete an online survey that focuses on parking and accessibility issues at the site of a new stadium.

The covering note from Jim Edmands, vice-president of sales and marketing, said a summary of the results will be part of a presentation to the city and the Games host corporation.

"The level of interest around the stadium is really high and we want to know what our fans want," Edmands said in an interview.

"Now is the time to do it, not two or three years from now when everything is decided."

The survey starts by asking fans how they get to Ivor Wynne and how they expect to travel to a stadium at the city's preferred site at the west harbour.

Other questions ask about GO Transit use and tolerable walking times, shuttle buses and a rating of what the parking experience would be like at the west harbour location. Questions also centred on in-stadium amenities, highway access and what would be the biggest incentive for fans to be a season's-ticket holder at a new facility.

A final question asked if they would buy season tickets at the west harbour site, which the Ticats say is not supported by its business partners.

The 2015 Games budget calls for a $102-million, 15,000-seat facility to host track and field, the Pan Am's premier venue.

The city, which is kicking in $55 million for construction and land acquisition, challenged the Tiger-Cats and the private sector to come up with the extra $25 million to $50 million it would take to build a 25,000- to 30,000-seat home stadium.

OK so the video ends at the end of Jarvis Street just 50 yards from the T-Cats offices. One of the people in the video is the mascot coordinator for the Bulldogs and the Ticats. The other if it is whom I think it is, works in the Public Relations and Communications industry.

Obviously a hoax… the tiger has actually been spotted skulking around Lafarge.
