This is like a skyline connector tower, a whole bunch of them going up in the Yonge Dundas area. They are bridging the gap in the East-West skyline between the financial district and College Park/Yorkville.

Yonge-Dundas Square could really benefit from more towers surrounding the Square to make it more impactful, now that the LED boards there are going into overdrive. Thankfully there are a lot of possibilities for redevelopment.

Is it just me or is the Stantec and JW Marriott pits taking a really long time to start to rise. If memory serves, they reached the bottom of the pit before Telus Sky, and now Telus Sky's core is nearly out of its pit, the 3rd deepest pit ever excavated for a Canadian building.

Probably due to the image above. Dig down drill holes and fill. I'm not sure how long they need to wait for those pylons to harden before they can start with the basement floors.

The several dozen 100m deep pilings took a while. See previous posts with the structural rendering.

1 year to get down, 1 year to get back up...

One bloor took almost 3 years to get down, and then get back up again to ground level.

Those caissons are over 3 times the depth of the 3rd deepest excavation in history. Sometimes there's more involved in building a stable foundation than just digging a hole. For Calgary, bedrock is shallow but it's unstable, fractured shale so raft slabs are used to distribute the weight and add stability. In Toronto's business district, they don't need anything.

Yup and one Bloor has 50 metre long caissons supporting it; half the length of Stantecs.
