Due to the size of the core footprint they opted to go vertical first and tie in the slabs behind. Every floor of basement is like a giant rectangular box. Once they break ground they have 4 less walls to pour at the exterior. I’m sure this will shoot up quickly once hitting grade.

^^ I don't recall having seen the north side of the tower. Thanks for sharing. I like how it doesn't line up with the grid but is rather at an angle. Beyond the shape and obvious height differences, this will also help to diversify the ever-increasing cluster over there.

I do like how the CC has a newly finished roof in that render also.

Well at least the core is above street level now. That first base level, as mentioned before, is simply huge. Once they get out of the ground with that section and on to the mid tower section, this snail pace should end.

I am really excited to see cladding on this tower. I know that is down a long road, however, I think it is going to be top notch. The colors will hopefully be amazing.

I like the fact they are going vertical with the tower section instead of waiting for every underground floor to be finished first.

Hate to say but I'm warming up to this beast. In isolation, it really can seem awkward and bizarre in not all the best ways. But it will absolutely put us on the map. I can't think of any supertalls being built in the US at the moment (or recently) that are shaped even remotely like this. It's gonna be immediately iconic, and Austin will be associated with it forever. A lot like the Frost Tower in the 2000s, this one will be the thing you think about when you think about Austin in the 2020s.

Also they converted the roads to only travel northbound in the 2nd rendering with the reduced light rail options!

Incorrect. That angle is more likely from the area around the Hyatt Regency (Barton Springs between S. First & Congress).

The part of the skyline is definitely flipped. But I think those people are stock images that were photoshopped into this picture.
