I think it should be added to the proposed list.
Oh, I should probably remove the planetarium and add the Waller Creek project. Not sure what to add for the Waller Creek one as I don't really know of any info about it yet other than a few pictures.

BevoLJ: I noticed on your OP you still have Colorado and 3rd on the proposed list. Haven't they broken ground already?

Did they? I remember seeing a picture where they removed the parking lot, but I didn't know if they had started construction or not.

Clearly I must just be too eager. Maybe we'll see a shot of the ground breaking from the JW Marriott construction camera!

Ha. The JW Marriott construction camera did catch the ground breaking activities for 3rd and Colorado this morning at 9:30. Check it.

Ground breakings are so corny. They dump a pile of fresh dirt so some shirts (and dresses) can lift up a shovel full with no effort. I would rather see them all given a pick ax to punch holes in the parking lot - preferably in 100 degree heat so they all get sweaty.

Mansion at Judge’s Hill gets a makeover as Hotel Ella

Quote:
By HELEN ANDERS May, 22, 2013

Mansion on Judge’s Hill is about to close for a month or so to undergo a renovation and rebranding that will renovate the rooms, add a pool and integrate the public and outdoor spaces.

The prime directive for all this has been one simple question: What would Ella do?

Ella and Goodall Wooten got the house as a wedding present from his father after it was built in 1898, and Ella Wooten, known for her impeccable taste and hospitality, turned it into the Greek Revival beauty that stands at Rio Grande Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard today.

She told her husband she’d rather have columns on her house than a trip around the world (and wound up getting both), and she enlisted Neiman Marcus to help create her dream home. She knew what she wanted, and she made it happen.

Hence, she’s the inspiration — and the name. Mansion on Judge’s Hill is scheduled to close June 3 and reopen in July as Hotel Ella. The property is being reconceived as a high-end boutique hotel rather than a bed-and-breakfast, and it will become the only Texas member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.

There's also going to be a new 160ft. Arch bridge over shoal creek. Things are starting to get intresting...

Quote:
Besides the Central Library, the adjacent $18.6 million Lower Shoal Creek improvements will include a 160-foot arch bridge over Shoal Creek that will extend Second Street alongside the library and will encourage bike and pedestrian use. The project also includes trail improvements, landscaping, lighting and stream bank stabilization. The design team for the bridge is URS Corp. and MWM Design group.

Good question
Ps. Regarding The Colorado, does anyone know if it's gonna totally block skyline views of Frost?

Your forum name is cracking me up. That's three Austin forumers now that I know of with that name.

I noticed they still have the skinny 416 Congress boutique hotel project listed. We've been writing that project off as dead, but it's still on there. I did notice the planetarium project wasn't listed. That hurts.

I think it definitely will block some views. Especially from the southwest. Google Earth is your friend here, it has a measuring tool that let's you plot a line from point to point. Using that tool, I can see that Frost will be blocked from view from the Doug Sahm Hill in Butler Park...unless Frost's crown peeks above it.. There will still be some places along Auditorium Shores where you'll be able to see it. You'll still see it from the Stevie Ray Vaughan statue, and from the grassy concert area of the park closer to South First. You'll still be able to see it from the northern extension of the Pfluger pedestrian bridge (over Cesar Chavez). You may or may not be able to see it farther south on Pfluger bridge. At that spot it just depends on if the crown peeks above the Colorado Tower's roof. But honestly, as soon as Green gets going, Frost will be hidden from view from the bridge also most likely, unless the crown peeks above. I think most of Frost will be visible from the great lawn at Zilker Park. But again, if the courthouse block south of Republic Square gets a big tower, the view of Frost from Zilker Park will be no more, that's for sure. At that point one of the few views left of Frost on the west side of the skyline would be from the Mopac bridge. You'd probably still be able to see it from the Zilker Clubhouse, with only a sliver of it possibly blocked from view on the south side of the building. The view from 360 of Frost looks safe, even if you were in the middle of the building.
