My husband and I also had a deposit toward a unit in the River tower. We really loved this project; the location, scope of the buildings, the architecture, the whole thing. We also admired John Saca's vision and guts. I may be fooling myself but I am still hopeful he can salvage this project in someway. Sacramento really needs upscale downtown living and there are many of us who will obviously embrace the concept with our money and energy.
Am I the only visionary left?? As for John Saca, I'm still in his camp.

Same here! I'll leave my deposit in escrow until they tell me the project is dead and all deposits are being returned.

What floor/unit do you have?

That is another aspect CalPERS/CIM must deal with - they're going to lose (most of) the current buyers if they change the design at all. It's a shame they couldn't just work it out with the original design.

I'm still in. I'm hoping John Saca can somehow pull a rabbit out of his hat. If not, then I'll see what CIM/CalPers come up with. I'm in no hurry. It's still where I want to live and what I want to live in.

Taken from The Sacramento Bee, Saturday June 9th, 2007. By Bob Shallit - Bee Columnist

Published 12:00 am PDT Saturday, June 9, 2007
Story appeared in BUSINESS section, Page D1

Condo woes: Prospects for the stalled Towers condo project took another hit this week: Its sales office closed.

On Wednesday, furniture was moved out of the office on the ground floor at 455 Capitol Mall, just up the block from the now-quiet project construction site.

"It's sad," says Dan Friedlander, owner of the Limn retail chain that provided chairs, desks and other equipment for the office.

But he's hopeful the shutdown is temporary.

"We'll be right back in there when they figure out what to do," he says, referring to talks under way between project developer John Saca and the California Public Employees' Retirement System, which could end up taking over the high-rise project.

Saca was unavailable for comment on the office closure.

Friedlander, a big participant in the redevelopment of Del Paso Boulevard, hopes Saca continues to play some kind of role in the project as it moves forward. He had the vision for the stunning project, with twin, 53-story towers and a hotel, Friedlander says. And he correctly assessed demand for the condos, just not the difficulty of getting financing in the current economy.

"When this finally goes up, John's contribution will have been enormous," he says.

They should level it off and lay down some gravel ,giving us a temporary parking lot, until they figure out what to do.

Saca always said he was doing this for the city and I think he has to take responsibility and clean up his eyesore. Of course it's not like he will ever be allowed build in this city again.

Back blade it baby!

Mechanico, I have no doubt I could kick your ass. I also have no doubt I banged your sister last night, but that's a whole nother story.
With that, I'm sure I'll be banned forever from this site, but it was fun while it lasted. Have fun everyone, and keep fighting the good fight...

I just don't want to look at that hole for 5 years. A gravel parking lot would make use of the property and can be built upon later.

How about a temporary community garden with temporary art pieces until construction resumes (in some form or another)?!
