A glimmer of interest in Ottawa's bleakscape.

For sure. That stepped tower over a heritage warehouse (once the Shopify Headquarters) certainly adds some interest to an otherwise flat and boring skyline. Wish it had more colour; maybe the Moxy Marriott sign and lighting will help there, but otherwise it's a decent building with a good mix of glass, precast and brick (real and precast).

Dense - but talk about tabletop! Even +/- 3-5 floors on the buildings would look interesting.

Private Ottawa doesn't do interesting, at least not often.

I know we are used to grading on a curve, but we should stay somewhat honest. Is that Ottawa photo like West End Avenue, or is it like Waterloo?

It is like Waterloo.

@Matt.R.WR...Amongst the emerging downtown skyline (also 11/08/2024):
(Pretty interesting to think the older office building on the left was the only thing of height in this view 10 years ago)

I like this shot, as it really shows the bulking up. Years ago, there was nothing in front of 1250 Rene-Levesque. Plus, it is the angle most familiar to me, from my days living in west-end Montreal (NDG, and before that, the West Island), which I would see on the days that I drove downtown...that said, I mostly took public transit).

^ I agree. Montreal and many other Canadian cities are bulking up in their inner cities these days. It's nice to see.

Here's a photo of Fairview in Vancouver from yesterday. It's really bulking up and will see some impressive changes leading up to the opening of the Millennium Line extension.

Partial of LeBreton Flats, slowly getting redeveloped after decades of little to no progress. Zibi and Hull in the background.

^nice shots. I lived in Fairview Slopes in 1994-1995 (I also worked on West Broadway at various times, 1994-95 and 1997-1998).

What's interesting is that due to the height limit and the topography, the 199m IBM tower looks like it's the tallest building by a hair.
