When I was 16 I mowed lawns for a summer with my cousin in Boucherville. There were a couple clients in Varennes that were special. One was an old man who looked like Colonel Sanders. He would watch us like a hawk to make sure we got the lines right on the grass. We had to do a crisscross pattern.

Then there was a biker / mafioso guy. He would hang out by his motorcycle smoking stogies and staring us down in his black leather. I can't say for sure that this was his house but it was very similar:

Varennes is an interesting town.

It's historic but has the weirdest shutters I've ever seen. Not so much ugly as it is bizarre.

Edit: Looking at it again it appears that the shutters just open partway. Not sure why you wouldn't open them all the way.

or "Soul-sucking on the South Shore"

Split shutters can be useful in terms of light and privacy. I'm betting that that old house is south-facing. More clever/practical than ugly, istm. To me, they are real shutters, which automatically makes them less ugly than the fake shutters people stick on houses.

Yes they get points for actual functionality. It's funny though that they look fake to me in spite of their functionality. Maybe it's because they are on such teeny tiny windows.

Also, I think the house faces north.

Brossard is a little too close to St. John's personified, which is objectively:

Old, overweight, overpainted, a nosey gossip that people unfamiliar with her mistake as friendliness, vulgar, mean, etc.

My neighbour once told me, we're friendly because we're nosey.

Yes, and the colours definitely suit St. John's.

More views of the bizarre hybrid McMansion / commercial building in Varennes. What a frankenstein structure.

Pretty much any slab that looks like this belongs on the thread.

And I know all lot of people like these but good god to me their hideousness can’t be ignored.
