RATS!!!

When I saw that this thread had been bumped, I was all giddy that it might be someone reporting that the caisson rig on site had tasted its first earth.

Oh well, any day now..................

Looks to me like there is work focused on the hole itself. . . maybe one caisson top in place, but otherwise no sign of foundation activity. . .

Related is re-using many of the Chicago Spire caissons, either directly or using some kind of transfers/grade beams. They're also gonna do underground parking with the top down method just like Shelbourne's plan.

So if they are drilling caissons they probably don't need more than a handful. Likely the first BIG step will be exposing the caisson tops and forming up the ground slab, and they will bring up the core to grade from Level -3 inside the pit.

400 Lake Shore Drive Site (1/30/2024)

I was in Chicago recently and was able to grab this picture of the 400 Lake Shore Drive site on 1/30/2024:

Not the best picture but you can see that there is a lot of activity going on!

Curt Bailey, President of Related Midwest stated its under construction. Looks like ongoing site prep.. probably a green light for U/C.

^ yes, for all practical purposes, now that the loan has closed, it's "under construction" in a general sense.

But we're a bunch of nerdy pedantic sticklers here at SSP.

To paraphrase Scottie Pippen, "it don't mean a thing without that (caisson) ring".

So what are they doing here? Making the core even deeper or just cleaning up the mud from years of a watering hole?

My guess is that they're taking out 15 years worth of sedimentary muck that collected in the bottom of the pit.

The exact timing of pulling out the dancing bananas for this one might be a bit tricky, as alluded to in ardecila's post last week.

When they put something new down, the bananas come out.

I think the convention on this thread is usually caisson drilling.

So we're waiting for the below equipment to get on site to prep the bananas, and then once they are drilling we dance the bananas.

What a bittersweet moment. The Chicago Spire sparked my interest in Chicago developments. Seeing all this activity on the site after more than ten years; What a journey it has been...

I choose to believe there are bananas down in that hole and that they are ready to dance as soon as they dig them up.
