Awesome. So much of what I remember from my Winnipeg days.

^ Not bad, but this is becoming a bit of a cliché in the Winnipeg alt-music and art scene.

"I'm going to peel back the lid and show you the real Winnipeg that the Chamber of Commerce doesn't want you to see!"

Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful that a realistic sense of self is a hallmark of Winnipeg (as opposed to the over-the-top boosterism you get in Alberta's cities), but when I watch something like this I get the feeling that I've seen it a few times already.

^I hope that doesn't bring a big change to the menu or vibe. It's a great spot with some reasonably unique food options that are quite tasty.

Quite sad, enjoyed the music, but the video and lyrics just reinforces the stigma that has surrounded this City for as long as I can remember.

Personally, I thought this was a really cool music video

It just reinforced to me why Winnipeg has such a fantastic arts scene. Just the photography in that video was awesome. Although it doesn't send a message of the prosperous side of the city, it does showcase the grungy side - which is something I personally love about the city. Adds so much to the character of the city.

Not to everyone tastes, not something I would show off to my friends when bragging about the Peg, but definitely something from an arts perspective I think is fantastic.

Well, as a practicing musician, artist and being very involved in Winnipeg's cultural scene from child hood, It's just more of the same that I've seen and heard about for decades. I've seen enough of Winnipeg's dark, dirty and grungy side.

I'm glad you like this part of the city's cultural background and feel. I personally have heard enough about this facet of the city that makes us special.

Of course art and the forms it takes is a very personal and subjective thing. Yeah, music is ok, video is okay, theme is tired, old and makes people think and feel negative. Of course all of this is opinion, similar to how you feel it's positive.

Damn, they pulled the shades on Winnipeg!

The film was well-made and it was done by people who clearly love their city. Thanks for sharing (or re-sharing if that's the case).

I enjoyed that. There's some form of humour in there somewhere, but very down the middle of the road with the thought of "not sure if serious or trolling" sort of way. It does go to show how the general attitude of our city is exactly that, but looking at the negatives, without the positives. In other words, the haters of this city LOVE it to death.

To me, it made sense.

I relate to that video. When I was a tourist in Winnipeg two years ago, I saw those things.

It didn't make me hate or look down on Winnipeg.

Anyone who watches a video like that of their hometown, and doesn't get an urge to improve things where they are, is heartless.

Just another of my rants... When a developer and/or business owner wants to invest in your city but has to go to public hearing for a conditional use and/or variance for something that is arguably the epitome of what the Complete Community Direction asks for your zoning code needs to be reformed.

^Almost every city has that problem. Zoning is stuck in the 1970s for a good portion of Canada and the United States. We have lost so much mixed use over the years by not permitting residential over business when a vibrant and defensible space means we want mixed uses, users, and time frames throughout our urban form.

Bad zoning restrictions means too many things like the above have to go through council's time. Even when it becomes a no-brainer decision it is council time. I'm not advocating all mixes of uses, but certainly many types of commercial versus residential could be deemed appropriate within the zoning.

Not sure what the problem is, there is no administrative objection to the request. It should be a 5 minute hearing unless some NINBY shows up.
