Holy shit! The Gang proposal is absolutely genius! We are so lucky to have her here. I hope lots of people come forward in support of this project in Hyde Park. I keep hearing how bad the nimbyism is down there. What are they most afraid of, groundbreaking design or increased density?

I wouldn't draw any conclusions. Perhaps Centrum just didn't want to take a chance that RTKL would reveal some info. publicly that they want to remain under wraps for the time being?? ie tenants that are close to signing leases, etc...

Just kidding of course - that is the type of thoroughly forward-thinking design we need tons more of in Chicago. We really do need to buckle down and once again become a true world leader in design, NIMBYs be damned!!

At some point of awesomeness, it seems people realize that something must be built and allow it despite any great opposition. At least that's how it worked for the new Spertus, despite it being in the middle of the Michigan Boulevard Landmark District. Doesn't seem to be working so well for X/O, but it's yet to be seen how awesome that one really is. We'll have to see, but I have high hopes for this Gang design. Besides, it's only 26 stories, so it won't change the density and height of the neighborhood that much.

Contact your Alderman and tell her you support it. Write a letter to her, write a letter to the Hyde Park Herald (which I did, and it was published), and go to a neighborhood meeting.

It's really quite simple. More people need to show support or the opposition's voices will go unopposed

Columbia Dorm - 642 South Clark (I think we have it listed ast 600 South Clark, but Mr. Downtown stated that the parking garage is 600 South Clark and thinks that 642 is the correct address:

Well put, Steely. This design looks too good to be true. For what it's worth I live in the area and will be happy to do my small part to see it through the community approval process.

I LOVE this building and I live in Hyde Park. I'm definitely writing the alderman (women), which is Leslie Hairston. Preckwinkle's ward is north of 55th street. Now that I think of it, I'll just write both of them. This building is right next to the Metra Electric line, a location crying out for high density residential construction.

The Vit will begin construction anyday now. When I went by this morning, the moveable crane was fully assembled and moving equipment/materials around the site. Rebar was being delivered, and a CASE caisson drill motor was sitting on the east side of the site.
