I'm shocked to see the increase in flights to YYC from Lynx. I do agree YVR would be great.

man you got me excited that Flair was making a YHM comeback , but we already knew Flair would expand from YXU.

Anyways, I'm hopeful that we'll see a non-stop flight to YVR next year. Lynx or Flair could easily fill that void we have. YVR is the only major city that we don't have a flight to.

Well, I suppose this kinda came true... but at what cost...

Lynx will increase service to YYC next summer to 5x weekly. All the flights will originate and terminate in YVR. This means you can now get same-plane service to YVR from YHM with a stop in YYC.

Lynx will operate: YVR-YYC-YHM-YYC-YVR on Mon,Wed,Thu,Fri,Sun next summer.

However, because of this, it looks like Lynx will be discontinuing YHM-YHZ, meaning Swoop will once again be the sole operator on that route.

So firstly, fuck Lynx.

Secondly, maybe Lynx is decent, but apparently they were not able to do the Halifax route. They should really have some sort of rating on their site for reliability, because Lynx cancelled, delayed, and cancelled flights from Halifax. Im never using Lynx ever again. Swoop was great, would recommend.

Those East Coast markets have limited demand -- and the sub-daily frequency on Lynx was always going to be relatively uncompetitive when matched against Swoop's daily YHZ flight. Lynx will be more competitive operating YYC/YVR at a higher frequency over summer. It's great having competition on a route of course, but for YHM's long-term growth connecting the airport to more markets is a priority. Here's hoping the increased YYC frequency on Lynx will finally compel WS to go back to a more competitive frequency next summer. Here's hoping for a YVR nonstop at some point in the near future.

I will wait and see what will happen with Halifax. Lynx has not officially announced Vancouver or their summer program so there maybe/hopefully more coming as they are getting more aircraft. Apparently they where very happy with the loads on both Halifax and Calgary this summer out of YHM. Maybe they will do another destination with Halifax. Who knows as it is still early in the game. Don't want to tip off the competition to early!

Took Swoop from YHM to YHZ in September. Was happy with the service. No complaints. Plane was about 80% full.

Taken YHM to LAS twice since service restarted...a joy. Prior trip was from YYZ..a disaster.

A friend has flown to St. Johns a couple times recently, flights packed, great experience.

Only complaint, which I have emailed YHM mgmt about is the sound system in the departure lounge. IF anyone at YHM follows please replace the sound system. An upgrade is badly needed.

Lynx will end Halifax (YHZ) service earlier than anticipated — January 8th.

Swoop Domestic Cuts across the board.

Abbotsford (YXX) - 3x weekly (down from 7x)
Swoop Edmonton (YEG) - 4x weekly (down from 7x)
Swoop Halifax (YHZ) - 3x weekly (down from 7x)
Swoop Moncton (YQM) - 2x weekly
Swoop St. Johns (YYT) - 2x weekly (down from 6x)
Swoop Winnipeg (YWG) - 2x weekly (down from 4x)

I did always find it ballsy how high the domestic frequencies were over the winter.

Swoop did harsher cuts to YYZ, they completely axed Halifax for 2 months, Edmonton, Kelowna indefinitely

Is this winter only? Outside of Xmas, domestic demand falls hard through winter in Canada.
I am surprised YEG and YXX get bit cuts. Big cities with some connections available in both.

Swoop brings back Montego Bay service starting 29JAN23. It will run 2x weekly. With this announcement, all pre-pandemic destinations are back on the lineup!

Yah its winter only. It will probably return to 6-7x weekly in the summer when domestic demand is usually higher.

We've always had YYC service via Westjet.
Westjet 3x weekly in the winter, Lynx 2x weekly in the winter.

Now while I was procrastinating my university exams, I decided to compare YHM flight frequencies to pre-pandemic levels.

Unfortunately, we're not quite back to where we were. We've lost a pair of international destinations.

On the Brightside, we have 1 new airline, 2 new domestic destinations, and 1 new southern destination.

Press Release Yesterday

Hamilton International Airport Cargo Business Outpaces Rest of Canada, Statistics Canada Data Reveals

Cargo tonnage facilitated through Hamilton International is nearly 60% higher than it was in 2017

Hamilton, ON (December 14, 2022) – John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport experienced significant growth in its air cargo traffic, outpacing the rest of Canada, according to the latest data released by Statistics Canada on December 8, 2022. Hamilton International facilitated more than 156,000 tonnes of cargo in 2021, which reflects a notable 59 percent increase as compared to 2017 and as compared to an average three percent decline across Canada in the same period.

“This steady growth in cargo activity can be attributed to the accelerated shift to e-commerce, alongside the increased demand and movement of a variety of essential medical supplies during the pandemic,” said Cole Horncastle, Executive Managing Director of Hamilton International. “As the largest domestic overnight express cargo airport and the third largest cargo freight airport in Canada, Hamilton International is a key economic driver and vital transportation hub for the Hamilton region and across Ontario.”

Hamilton International’s 2021 Economic Impact Study, completed by ICF International Incorporated, found that Hamilton International delivered 4,720 jobs and $1.5b in total economic output, with 2,770 jobs and $1b of that directly attributed to its cargo business. Cargo operations at the Airport have experienced a 29 percent growth in all areas, including employment, labour income, value added and industry activity, over the past five years:
