Yeah except they have like 5 buildings that help give it a great pyramid look. Plus I would take it any day just to have a tower that large, Plus who knows what else could be proposed soon to fill in the gap

Dallas makes almost that same leap, they have a few buildings in the 700 foot range and then they have one building that jumps up to over 900 feet. Looks great there. Basically the same leap Denver will be taking, few buildings over 700 feet then jump to 1000 feet. Not a huge difference from Dallas. Plus their proposed building is so much more interesting than any current building in Salt Lake or Denver. So I say congrats Denver and I am way jealous

Also their proposal is under design review with the city right now, I’m sure it’s going to change some and will make me even more jealous

285 feet really isn’t that big of a leap for Denver. Besides there probably isn’t an American city more over due or deserving for a new tallest than Denver. I think a new super tall will do wonders there. Amount of development happening in downtown Denver is already insane. I think it will do wonders there as a new 600 foot tower in Salt Lake will do wonders there.

Why are we talking about Denver's tower proposal in here? There's a Denver thread where that can be talked about.

You're right, I did miss that. I still think there's better locations downtown, but hey, maybe I could be proven wrong.

But anyway, just like sensible alcohol laws in Utah, it's a pipe dream proposal anyway. ;-)

What do you have against plasma clinics...? South Salt Lake already has one anyway.

Is it just because evil homeless people go there?

Funny how it looks that you offended more people in Salt Lake than anyone in Denver!

I'm not offended I just don't know why we always have to bring Denver up in here.

I wasn't talking about you, I actually agree with you. I don't see the need to talk about other cities non-relevant to the purpose of your thread. I was actually just referring to the 3 or 4 posts prior to yours. Not saying their offended but they were much more defensive for Denver than anyone from here in Denver. I just found it kind of funny

My mistake, I wasn't sure who you were including in that.

Salt Lakers on here really have an inferiority complex when it comes to Denver. I think that's all we need to know to explain why it keeps coming up.

It's only natural. Salt Lake and Denver are similar in many ways. Both Rocky Mountain cities defined by mountains, skiing and a history of western culture. We're not like Phoenix and Las Vegas because those cities boomed well after Denver and SLC had been established. We're not like the California cities, outside, maybe Sacramento, due to the lack of a coast. We're not Northwestern, so, Portland and Seattle are out.

Denver and SLC might not be overly similar but the similarity is enough to lead to comparisons. That then leads us to question when we'll see the vertical growth Denver has experienced, even if it's only relative to our city's size.

Salt Lake still hasn't broken the 500 foot barrier despite breaking the 400 foot barrier 45 years ago. So, I'm guessing there's a bit of jealousy when a city in our region gets a proposal for a new tallest.

One day, tho, our day will come...

I would take a thousand foot Tower in Salt Lake right now and have no problem with it. Density in housing and in Workforce does awesome things. A 1000 foot Tower puts a lot of people in one place. It concentrates the wealth and talents of those people into one place for at least some portion of the day. That place becomes a destination for Transit, a magnet for restaurants, a hero for sidewalks. I am so less concerned about the skyline as I am the potential of the street.

I honestly think it’s because I’m tired, but would you mind clarifying what you said? I’m having a difficult time following

I don't understand why the post was made in the first place. It wasn't anything even related to SLC in any way.

I think it’s pretty obvious, he’s jealous. Why else would he make the effort to post something with no other intentions other than to take a shot at Denver and their proposal. “No offense Denver... not a proposal I would be proud of.” Pretty mature sounding. Didn’t like it? Then he should have said it in the Denver thread, not come back to Salt Lake just to take a shot at it

It came across my news feed yesterday incidentally. My point was that all that is too tall is not necessarily a good thing. Proportion is important. Denver is a great town, SLC has potential. It's been brought up before that a singularly large tower going up in SLC would be a bad idea, and it appears that Denver may go this route. I just wanted to illustrate using this example. Maybe I'm a paid rabble rouser? No need to get upset get upset Jub or grasscom.

San Francisco just went that route, putting a single tower that completely towers over the rest, and it looks great. Why would it not in Denver? Denver has plenty of buildings that aren’t far off from 1000’

That actually works. I have no problem with that. Frisco already has the massing to support it.

Am I jealous? Not with the new Denver proposal. Not at all. To me it sticks out, a bit too much. Sorry to have brought it up.

Jealous that other cities have larger towers while SLC has mini highrises?

Yeah...Ok, I'll admit to that.
