Nine years later, and this site is still a parking lot..no Forks neighbourhood. That's why the Forks will never look like the Chicago riverwalk.

There's not even a Grand Forks style Holiday Inn water park.

The 2017 SMM conceptual plan's timeline had this phase being built from 2019-22:

What's the realistic likely timeline for this phase now? 2023-25? Later?

^ Even if the whole thing couldn't be finished, you would think at least that modest first phase could have been started by now.

Pretty sure that whole pandemic thing everyone forgets about put significant delay on this project, like many others. But yes I'd agree this thing is taking eons.

Well, the plan did project a start in 2019 and the pandemic didn't happen until 2020. But that aside, the pandemic is over now in the sense that restrictions have been shelved and the world has gone more or less back to normal. Housing is being built all over the city, just as it was right through the pandemic... just not at The Forks.

If I could guess beyond these reasons mentioned here, the extremely soft demand in the Wpg condo market is probably not helping them move any quicker. For the idea was that most/all of the residential pitched was to be purchaseable condos, no?

How much does the sale of the portage place parkade hinge on this development? Seems like they need some of that capital for the larger infrastructure investments that the site requires.

If they’re having so much problem with demand they should just build a brand new elementary and high school at the Forks. Families will flock there instantly.

a water park idea for this city has always been a running joke since i joined this forum years ago, but being a father of 4 we'd frequent this place very often if not year round.

Not saying for this location, but id support the build of one, if one was ever entertained.

Going to Fun Mountain and Skinnners was always a good day back in the 80's.

I have always thought a water park would be located well at the Dominion centre lot - river views, Massive underused land and proximity to downtown/ the forks. Plus a future Rapid transit station at St.Mary and Marion

It’s truly embarrassing how long this is taking. It just goes to show what a cluster F**K the bridge lease mess was, and what complete mismanagement this has been. There should be massive desire to purchase a condo and live at the Forks. This is why the city should never be in development. Sell the land to Ladco; at least they will get something done. A Gravel parking lot for 40 years!

But, but, but slipping Sammy needed that gravel parking lot for his pickup E level baseball team and he did pay a $1 per year!

For anyone who has been to a Goldeyes game when a tarin goes by, I'd imagine living adjacent to the area might not be super appealing.

That 5 minute long SCREEEEECH of the train wheels as they round the curve by the stadium doesn't seem like something I would want to try and sleep through.
