Sask Film Industry Rises from the Dead With New Zombie Flick

decade ago, in a devastating blow to the film industry, the Saskatchewan government ruthlessly severed the lifeline that was the film employment tax credit.

Their reason? The province claimed it bled their coffers dry, heedless of the creative souls left in ruins.

The scars of that merciless decision still haunt the industry, but today – the industry rises again. , the dummies who that decision should be exposed, the name is published and be held accountable

2023 air photos went up on the city's oblique imagery site today, but you have to zoom in very close to see them. https://opengis.regina.ca/Pictometry...on=-104.604772

Lots of bits and pieces out at the Cargill plant back in April. Here's a link to that spot so you don't have to pan way over https://opengis.regina.ca/Pictometry...lon=-104.77240.

I was riding west of the city and saw a new water line getting laid toward the canola crushing plant from the Buffalo Pound pipeline. 16" plastic pipe, so I guess they are going to be using a lot of water. Probably sized it to accommodate the wheat straw pulp plant as well.

There's also cast iron water pipe running along Armour Road heading east from Condie Road. Probably for the north industrial area which is rapidly expanding. Possibly also planning ahead for the Viterra plant.

There is a "future home" sign just west of the first grid road west of the GTH on the north side of the road but no start of construction yet. Nothing on their social media / website since last year could be still trying to secure funding. Website currently mentions first production in 2026.

I’ll bet my pension cheque that the straw plant will not see the light of day. There was an attempt at Elie MB to do this and it was a financial and rat infested disaster.

I looked at a photo I took back in late May and the pulp mill sign wasn't up yet, so there may be some hope of it still getting built.

New Regina Floral Conservatory rethinking design due to inflated cost

This is Red Leaf Pulp. I understand they are very serious, but this is complex, new technology, so it is understandable that it takes a while to break ground. They have been actively signing up producers to supply straw feedstock. Their backers are smart engineers and pulp industry veterans. This is not just a bunch of dreamers.

Newest joint-use school to be located in North Regina

By Tanner Wallace-Scribner
Jun 27, 2023 | 3:11 PM
The Government of Saskatchewan announced a new joint-use elementary school that will house four schools in North Regina.

The new school will be built on the existing Imperial Community School site and consolidate and replace St. Peter and St. Michael, Imperial and McDermid elementary schools.

It would be great if the main entrances to the new joint use school were on Hamilton instead of Broad Street.

The backers are accomplished people, I wonder how much capital they have behind them and what happens when the grant money runs out.

It seems like an interesting project and I hope it goes forward. Since they announced in 2021 construction costs very well may have jumped 50% due to inflation and supply chain constraints which is a lot of extra cash to find.

A few pictures of bridge work. https://imgur.com/a/z5Cex2B

The Pinkie Road bridge is nearly ready for the road deck to be paved. Rather slow progress as they framed out the deck with wood instead of using precast panels to fill the gap between trusses.

The #6 bridge over the Ring Road is nearly ready for trusses. They completely regraded the two clover leaf ramps as the bridge is likely taller.
