I work for a small accounting firm. Whenever someone calls into our back-door number or calls after hours they get to hear my voice on the recording. It's weird. Also we have an overhead paging system in the office. I used to feel awkward when I had to make an announcement but after doing it about 1,000 times you get use to it.

On western accents, I've heard a plains accent before, but it varies according to how far north in the US you are. The Dakotas sounds more like MN, but away from the cities in NE and KS and maybe WY (and probably CO at one time, listing to old recordings of people even in Denver) words like hunting seem to always be changed to huntin' or fishin' and I can't quite put my finger on it, but I'd call it the "old prospector" accent. I imagine that the prevalence of any "western" accent depends on the area being rather isolated. I remember watching a "Cops" like show set in Montana, and they clearly had a northern midwestern derived accent, coupled with that "old prospector" huntin fishin thing.

i know everybody has an accent, but for some reason it was more pronounced/different than i was expecting.

maybe it's an ohio accent? it just sounded... american to me. but more so than the people i'd talked to washington, oregon, california, nevada, and colorado. it sounded a little bit drawly/southern like the carolinas but quicker. maybe just mid-west/middle-american?

even with washington vs. bc, i can hear the difference though. especially the news anchors.

Hate it! I've got a Mike Tyson issue in that I'm a big guy (5'11" and north of 200 lbs), but I have a light and high pitched voice. And when going through a drive-thru I always make sure to deepen my voice after being called "ma'am" more than a few times in college (with a car full of people).

I should just recorded it and post it so everyone can see how bad it is.

You could take up smoking. That stuff does wonders with your vocal cords.

Yeah, I'm always like "holy shit, my voice sounds goofy", but that's probably just because I'm not used to hearing it. The voice that I hear kicks ass.

Nobody else seems to notice anything though, so it must be alright.

and having met both of you, you guys have completely normal voices. and i probably do too because nobody comments on it, but when i hear a recording, i sound retarded.

Before my voice changed when I was little I used to get called Mrs. Coleman if I answered our phone at home.

Milwaukee fucking rules, the only thing that sucked about the weekend was getting stuck in Chicago traffic picking up my friend. OH MY FUCKING GOD it took 2 hours to get from Bolingbrook (Chicago suburb) to his house in Logan Square, while it took under 1.5 hours to get from Logan Square Chicago to downtown Milwaukee.

Spelled crayons, but pronounced kranz. I didn't realize that I pronounced it incorrectly until I was an adult and informed by a New Yorker making fun of my home region.
