The Capital at Brickell site has been sold. The site is already excavated by the previous developer.

MET 3 is already U/C but it will only be a 43 story condo tower with the Whole Foods market sitting at the base.

They did omit One Biscayne Plaza though and I'm not sure as to why.

^ It's being demolished floor by floor since the building sits right on Biscayne bay and it can't be imploded since debris would fall into the bay itself.

Genting is in no hurry to demolish the building and its going to sit there slowly decaying for a while:

http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/01/1...nder-fire.html

Quote:
When lawmakers balked at changing state gambling laws to allow the project and a similar Miami casino sought by Las Vegas Sands, Genting began pursuing other options. Last spring, Genting said it would move forward with a large hotel and condo towers on the 14-acre Herald site. Demolition of the newspaper’s former building was slated for the end of 2013.

On Friday, Genting said the new schedule doesn’t anticipate demolition until the fall. The company said it faced more environmental issues than it anticipated on the Herald site, which the media company occupied until its May 2013 move to Doral. Genting has not submitted the zoning proposals required to start development, or released the renderings and floor plans needed to launch condo sales. “We are still refining the design and expect to submit our plans later this year,” Genting said.

With the resort plans stalled, Genting this week revealed an effort to bring 2,000 slot machines to the waterfront. The company announced a partnership with the Gulfstream racetrack in Hallandale Beach to use one of its two permits to authorize slots and off-track-betting at Genting’s property 17 miles away.

STARCHITECTURE WATCH
One Thousand Museum Wins FAA Approval, Thank Heavens
Friday, January 24, 2014, by Sean McCaughan

http://miami.curbed.com/archives/201...a-approval.php

Zaha Hadid's exoskeletoned condo palazzo, One Thousand Museum, has gotten the green light from the Federal Aviation Administration, according to developer Gregg Covin.

The tower has received its Letter Of No Hazard, meaning there's no risk of of a plane-go-splat-on-starchitect-designed-tower situation from aircraft arriving or departing from Miami International Airport. The tower will be allowed to top out at 709 feet above mean sea level, which sounds about right considering the designs are for 706 feet in height and the building is just about at sea level already.

This was expected but it's to be announced officially this week.

M.L.S. to Award David Beckham a Team in Miami

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/04/sp...iami.html?_r=0

No new info on a location for the stadium yet however...

Quote:
While M.L.S. is sure to welcome Beckham as an owner, getting a stadium for the team in Miami will not be easy because of political pressures and a vibrant real estate market that has driven up prices.

Discussions have been centered around a piece of county-owned land near the city’s seaport, PortMiami, where cruise lines and cargo ships dock. But that property was slated for commercial development, and putting a stadium there instead could represent a loss of revenue for the county. To win county approval, the owners of the stadium might have to make market rate payments, said one person with knowledge of the thinking of county officials.

Even then, it is unclear how soon a stadium might be built, though the team could presumably play a year or two at a temporary home like the Miami Dolphins’ stadium in Miami Gardens or at Florida International University in Miami.

If the archeological find is half as interesting as they are suggesting, this could be a win for downtown Miami. European cities are littered with archeological ancient remains and it adds a sense of history and place. A movie theater can easily be incorporated into an adjacent structure. I get the desire to want to build up and densify the area but I also see the opportunity to preserve historical artificat.

It would be cool, but my fear is that it will be buried like they did with the Circle they found at the mouth of the river.

Here here! If it's as visible and well-preserved as they would have us believe, they could even build a museum on/around the site. Talk about a cultural and historical coup for what most view as an entirely flashy and new city.

Nine @ Mary Brickell Village | 379 feet | 35 stories tops out

This condo tower was put on hold during the housing decline but the shopping village was completed and it sits atop a Publix supermarket on the ground floor. It's one of the popular destinations in the Brickell / downtown area with access to Metrorail across the street.

Lord Norman Foster-Designed Tower Proposed To Rise Above Terminal Island

Quote:
Luxe high-design condos and a mega-yacht marina on Terminal Island? That's the pitch Harvey Hernandez of Newgard Development made to Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy Morales last week in a proposal for a public private partnership with conceptual plans drawn up by starchitecture firm Foster + Partners sent in by a Curbed reader. Proposed plans show an approximately 60+-unit diamond shaped tower at the tip of the island and a deepwater marina, with the city's unsightly storage and service bays tucked underneath the tower's parking. Hernandez, who is in the midst of developing BrickellHouse and the garage-free Centro, acquired the lot last year.

If the city accepts Hernandez's proposal, the project would require a rezoning and amendment to the city's Future Land Use Map. In exchange, Newgard would construct new city facilities, though the city would have to pay for them. A letter to Morales submitted by Newgard's attorneys with the plans appeals to the city manager's desire for the "maximum highest and best use of waterfront property." In other words, Terminal Island could be something other than an eyesore, and really quite spectacular.
