I think its been pushing on 7 years but the float plane places were always in that area in trailers when there was no park or seawall there and people didn't go down there

Relevant to the flight centre dispute: the owners of the new terminal at the convention centre have bought out a terminal in Victoria Harbour hoping to attract competitors to the Vancouver-Victoria route - while Harbour Air is operating out of and pursuing development of a different terminal. Doesn't seem likely this dispute's going to end any time soon...

that article notes that the new float plane terminal is losing 250k per month! that's nuts. man, harbour air, whenever they end up getting getting the boot, they'll have done pretty well for themselves on the cost-savings side. and obviously, pavco will be sad to see the rent go and their facility demolished.

And it looks like after all of that fuss, the customer will *still* have to pay the extra $9.50 fee. So Harbour Air basically gained nothing and lost a lot of money in the process. Great negotiating, guys.

Looks like Harbour Air did get a small concession from Pavco, which originially demanded for rent and a $12-per-ticket fee. Now the an extra $9.50 will be added to fares for each flight. The move will happen at the end of this year. It is not known whether Harbour Air still have to pay the rent. Also according to some news report, Harbour Air will now spend $2 million to build an extension to the centre's docks.

I don't think Harbour Air lost any money during this saga. Instead the new terminal operator lost a lot of money every day due to the underutilized facility.

Seawall To Be Reconnected By Christmas?

Further information from the Vancouver Sun:

Quote:
Deal means seawall will be fully connected to walkway around the convention centre

By Brian Morton, Vancouver Sun September 10, 2012 8:01 PM

Harbour Air and the Vancouver Harbour Flight Centre (VHFC) have ended their long-simmering dispute with an agreement that will see the airline, by the end of 2012, flying from the newly constructed float-plane terminal attached to the Vancouver Convention Centre, it was announced Monday.

The agreement in principle also means that BC Pavilion Corp. (PavCo) will begin construction on the permanent connection of the seawall’s Harbour Green Park improvements to the walkway around the VCC.

“PavCo has the responsibility to reconstruct the seawall,” said PavCo president and CEO Dana Hayden. “We’ve already put out a request for proposals to seek a contract to undertake that work. The pedestrian walkway and bike path will all be made a continuous route from the convention centre to the park...We plan on having it completed by Christmas.

Oct 31 All buildings emptied/Services relocated to new terminal
Nov 15 Buildings removed from site.
Dec 31 No Operations on City property/flights will use docks at new terminal

Asap after Dec 31 but no specified deadline, old docks removed.

Thanks for the update.

But what do you mean they are "relocating" the ramp? Wouldn't they use the new terminal's ramp?

Is anything planned for the trailer park location? The eternally delayed waterfront station expansion I guess?

Waterfront station? think you are thinking of the wrong location, there was a proposal for a Harbour green restaurant though.

Ya, I was under the impression there would be a Parks Board operated (or contracted out) restaurant there.
