Great news! I hope the city keeps the pressure on the feds. Allowing these buildings to bite the dust would be an absolute tragedy, and a total waste of Chicago history/architecture. Not to mention it will keep that stretch of State St a dead zone, since an empty plaza in front of a sterile government complex isn't exactly a pedestrian magnet.

I'm guessing they would add some kind of entrance pavilion facing State Street, to allow for a more robust security checkpoint that is not directly under the Dirksen tower. Entrances on Dearborn would be closed off.
So the plaza wouldn't be dead, per se... you'd have plenty of people entering/exiting the courthouse on that side, and occasionally lots of media for high-profile trials.
