Looks like they yanked out the trees planted on that temporary berm? I believe the landscaping was added when Related bought the site to create some goodwill with the neighbors by mitigating HOLE.

Realistically?

Right now, because they have the construction loan.

Money is the only thing that ultimately matters.
So I'll keep a close eye out, but the moment I see construction material being assembled on site (caisson rebar cages) I'm calling it - although I suspect nothing will get started until January. . . this will be Chicago's 11th tallest building when completed. . .

If the 851' figure we currently have is correct, then the CTBUH's scorecard says it'll be the city's 15th tallest.

I'll be honest, I've spent way too much time trying to understand how the existing/Spire foundation will be re-appropriated for the north tower...it's not the same footprint, nor is it even planned to be built over it, I think...I believe the actual tower overlaps only a portion of the Spire hole. I thought I remember someone in this thread previously created an image overlay, of the footprint of the north tower over the existing Spire foundation hole, or am I imagining things?

They should keep them! All of those in a line, would make such a cute linear park between the buildings

If I recall correctly the hole will remain as an open pit in which the rich will throw peasants into whenever they are displeased.

I just came across this model and thought the towers looked quite nice from this perspective:

If this is considered 'under construction' before the hoist comes down on 1000 South Michigan then the streak of Chicago having at least one 800' UC continues... unless the shorter tower goes up before caisson work starts on the second?

According to Urbanize, there's quite a bit of underground work to do before the first tower will start rising.

Quote:
Imminently, crews will begin below-grade work, including caissons, sheeting, and the cofferdam. Work below-grade is expected to begin in Q1 of 2024 and run through Q2 2025. Once underground work is done, crews will transition to vertical construction, including concrete pours, the building enclosure, and interiors. Above-grade work will start in Q1 2025 and continue through Q2 2027. Landscaping and the final completion of the tower is expected for Q3 2027.

That layout was proposed but later discarded. In a rare win for the construction team, the north tower was shifted to center its core on the spire caisson ring.
