I'm going to bet it's CNRL. More of a hunch than anything based on my understandings of the oil patch at this point.

Maybe Enbridge.

Big news if true.

IF true (the "big IF") it would be ironic if Danielle Quisling couldn't get private money for her trans-BC extortion pipeline, but Wab got $$ for his.

So Jason Kenney is pretty active on the socials about the whole situation in AB. And by god I can't believe he's the sane voice in the room. At least he's putting up that face. Posting coherent thoughts about how traitorous that whole group is.

LNG or bitumen? LNG is more palatable for many and there is a ready market in Europe.

I heard he was doing this from my wife, who called him "Tom Kenny". Tom Kenny, for those who don't know, is the voice of Spongebob Squarepants. When she said this I had an instant image of Jason Kenny saying "IIIII'm premier.... IIIII'm premier..." in a Spongebob voice. In my mind, it was an improvement.

Both maybe, I don't know. Canada may be looking for other markets for crude depending upon how things go with the whole US ruling Venezuela thing.

Canada should be looking for other markets IMO. The current political environment will likely pass at some point. Regardless, diversifying reliance on the US can only be a good thing.

I could venture over to the Alberta section and see if there's any thoughts over there. But it's pretty dead.

Also, digital and economic sovereignty is another driver. You do not want to trust whatever demigod is in the White House or China with your private data. Or worse have them threaten to hold your data hostage and destroy your economy unless you name a bridge after them.

New partnership to keep Thompson mine open, eyes expansion after partial sale
New owners say no layoffs — they plan to double operations in northern Manitoba

Eric Westhaver · CBC News · Posted: Feb 19, 2026 9:54 AM CST | Last Updated: 4 minutes ago

A partial sale has been announced for a nickel mine in Thompson, Man., Vale Base Metals and three new partners announced Thursday morning.

The new ownership group will invest up to $280 million in operations and keep the mine operating long-term, they said.

The new partners — Toronto-based Exiro Minerals, New York City-based Orion Resource Partners and the Canada Growth Fund, a federal investment fund operated at arm's length from the government — will invest in the mine in Thompson, about 650 kilometres north of Winnipeg.

The newly created Exiro Nickel Company will operate the mine. The new company will be incorporated and based in Canada, while using some starting investment from the U.S.

Exiro Minerals, Orion Resource Partners and the Canada Growth Fund will have a combined 81.1 per cent ownership in the new company. Vale will have the remaining 18.9 per cent, a minority stake.

"Together, we'll become a new company, with new leadership and a new name," said Vale Base Metals CEO Shaun Usmar.

"Today marks the launch of a new Canadian nickel company. Our team is honoured and excited to have acquired the Thompson nickel belt from Vale Base Metals — not only one of the biggest nickel camps in the world, but one that has historical significance to Canada," said Shastri Ramnath, Exiro's CEO.

Manitoba Government Invests $950,000 In Waste Management and Diversion in Lynn Lake and Marcel Colomb First Nation
– – –
Upgrades Will Create Safer Living Conditions, Lower Costs for Local Governments: Simard

The Manitoba government is granting $950,000 through the Manitoba Growth, Renewal and Opportunities for Municipalities (Manitoba GRO) program to expand and modernize the regional solid waste site that services the town of Lynn Lake and Marcel Colomb First Nation (MCFN), Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard announced today.

“This investment reflects our commitment to building strong, sustainable northern communities,” said Simard. “By working together with Lynn Lake and Marcel Colomb First Nation, we’re ensuring safer waste management, lowering long‑term costs, and supporting the kind of regional infrastructure that helps communities grow and thrive.”

Plans include the expansion and modernization of the landfill site’s infrastructure, which will increase capacity and enhance community-based diversion efforts, the minister said, adding the plan also builds resilience to climate-related events and supports Manitoba’s Path to Net Zero by expanding recycling and waste diversion.

“Our government is helping to reduce the high cost and challenges of dealing with waste in northern and remote communities,” said Environment and Climate Change Minister Mike Moyes. “This funding will reduce environmental impacts in the region and ensure this infrastructure is built for sustainability.”

“With investments like these it shows the north is at the forefront of not only the provincial, but the country’s economy,” said Brandon Dulewich, mayor, Town of Lynn Lake. “What seems to be an endless supply of minerals in the north is just waiting to be mined and the infrastructure needs to be in place to make the projects successful. With strong partners like the Manitoba government and Alamos Gold, I look forward to all the things we can accomplish in the years to come that will make life better for the people of the north.”

Manitoba GRO is an application-based program designed to help municipalities located outside Winnipeg advance critical infrastructure projects that will support growing and sustainable communities. The 2025-26 program will provide up to $42 million in grants.

In 2025, the Manitoba GRO program encouraged municipalities to work collaboratively by submitting joint applications with neighbouring communities, allowing them to pool resources and advance shared regional priorities, Simard noted.

For more information on Manitoba GRO, visit https://gov.mb.ca/mr/mfpp/mgro.html.
