Moncton city council has agreed to spend $620,000 for a new roundabout on Marriott Drive.

I believe this is for the west end of Marriott, beyond the Fairfield Inn, where Marriott will connect with the subdivision currently under construction.

Small 18 unit apartment building planned for Curry Street in the Sunny Brae neighbourhood, next to the ruins of the old round skating arena on the marsh.

What a vague quote that is... are we to assume they will only proceed once the city obtains provincial/federal funding and widens Elmwood, or will they begin before on a smaller scale?

Elmwood certainly could use being widened, more people walk to the city than ever and not a day goes by that I don't see some pedestrians when driving to town. It could be difficult to widen it and retain room for bikes, cars, a sidewalk and not encroach too far up on lawns for some of these houses so that they may have to widen both sides using the existing easement or space that falls outside of the property lines.

They can proceed with phase one at the developers discretion.

Full build out will require a number of issues to be addressed, including improved sewage infrastructure, a retention pond, widening of Elmwood including new sidewalks, and, a new signalized intersection with Elmwood.

The major road work will need provincial and federal help in funding. Lord knows when that will happen..............

North Elmwood has already been upgraded. There is that weird forgotten section between the Needs convenience store and Granite Drive which was not touched. As you have pointed out, this deficiency needs to be addressed in any event.

I recall the Mayor and some councilors being opposed to this development. The redrawing of boundaries or something to that effect.

I can see the same people being opposed to any widening or increasing infrastructure in this area, if only to pigeon hole the development into as small a project as possible.

Short sighted, yes. Spiteful, yes.

If the developer offered to pay for bike lanes on Elmwood, the Mayor would most certainly change her mind.

The city has an area that is able to be serviced with infrastructure like water and sewer. There is also only so much capacity with existing infrastructure to service more development in an area without expensive upgrades. This development went to council to expand the city's serviceable area to accommodate it. A lot of new infrastructure is needed to handle this project if it's fully built out.

The argument is basically that there are a lot of areas in the city that are already able to handle big growth with the infrastructure in place. It'd be better to use that land first, rather than expand further at big expense.

I believe it will be on an extension of Marriott, where it will eventually connect with an extension of Camelot Dr.

It will be for traffic calming (although I doubt there will be too much traffic here anyway.

Speculation over on Retail Talk & Share that the (now) former Great Canadian Dollar Store in the Elmwood Plaza will become either (yet another) Dollarama or a Giant Tiger.

If it was a choice between the two, I would prefer Giant Tiger.

Also, the small adjacent plaza that will contain Mary Brown's and/or Fat Bastards is delayed because of permitting issues. Once this is cleared up, construction will proceed.

It will be a Fat Bastards as there is a sign up in the parking lot saying that they are coming soon and/or there are franchise opportunities available.

That is for a new plaza being built in the parking lot. It will also have a Mary Browns.

Significant Announcement.

Trapa Homes (Savoie/McCabe) plans for up to 15 new apartment (approx. 900 units) buildings and 24 townhouses near the end of Newcombe Dr. only a minute or two away from Ecole Champlain.

Starting modestly with a 3-storey, 36 unit building but must build a new 1.2km street before proceeding. Expectation is to 150 units per year.

Good stuff. I presume this "1.2 km street" will be the planned connector through to Harrisville Blvd that was first proposed as part of the Humphrey Brook community development plan.

This would require municipal involvement (perhaps with a development charge). Where did you hear this? Do you have a link???

All NB says the same developers paid $700K for three parcels in the area too:

https://paol-efel.snb.ca/paol.html?v...n&pan=06544549 between Newcombe and Glengrove just south of the proposed street seems to fit that description; perhaps it consists of three distinct PIDs.

Plan mentions a townhouse component, presumably this would be on the west side of Glengrove and to the north of Glengrove and Durelle to mesh with the existing neighbourhood.

So, three "substantial" lots for multi-unit mixed use residential buildings. Sounds very interesting.

Seeing the request for this new subdivision plan, I guess the roundabout will be located at the intersection of Marriott, Warner and (future) Grande Allee, just to the west of the Fairfield Inn.
