Grannies are an important demographic for a downtown. First, that's where a lot of growth has to come from, and has been coming from. Second, below a certain age they tend to be great for restaurants, the symphony, museums, department stores, etc. Third, once they move into town many of them use transit exclusively.

Haha, I don't want the ol' geezers to leave. I'm just sad that Skyline is exclusively a retirement home. But then again, I'm happy that they'll get some of the best views of downtown. Plus grannies from Skyline won't have to stay at Shag. I don't think I'd ever call Shag and say Stewart sent me!

Anyways, a shot I forgot to post yesterday:

And, well... I don't know if I like this or not... Well, I like it, I'm just not sure if it's in the right location.

Interesting - it does look kind of odd there. Is it fully installed?

I'm not sure. I was driving and taking pictures at the same time. Plus it's a stick shift. So I wasn't really paying attention, I was trying to do those three things at once.

I really hope they cover that wall on Yesler. It looks uuugggglllyyy! And I hope they let ivy grow on this concrete wall next to the plaza.

Well I decided to make some Sketchup models for Seattle. I really think our skyline needs a change and downtown needs some of life to it. Specially some new skyscrapers that are "up-to-date".

I made a tower for 4th and Spring. It's 648 ft. tall, has 46 floors and is used for offices.

There's a very long description of the building here. Now I'm not an architect, or so some of the things may sound kinda coocoo for coco puffs. I'm not sure.

It is BURNING HOT and I can't sleep. But it's good to hear that it's moving along nicely.

Anyways, I took some shots the other night. 1521 really needs some spotlights on that fin.

Construction at night? Something we rarely see!

I took a whole bunch more but they're in the Photo-section.

Nothing to do with construction but I found these awesome images on VintageSeattle.org. It's such an amazing website! Click on images for High Resolution version.

Damn! Look at how Westlake plaza used to be! And I thought we had a crappy mall today! At least you could admire the Nordstrom's Building back then.

The Ross-Marche looks so beat up today. It looks beautiful in the pictures. I wish they could restore it to its old glory days. It'd make the perfect base for a modern condo tower. Or maybe they should make it a mall and build more floors above.

BTW speaking of tall buildings, I'm dying for them to build a super-tall on the site of the Olympic Hotel parking garage. That would be an ideal place for a really big 'un.

Me, too.

I want them to get rolling on those 2nd Ave towers, too. The ones on the parking lots and by the Moore.

This outdoor movie theater is tightt... Would that make it the tallest outdoor movie theater on earth? Whatever happened to the movies on the Rainier Tower base anyways?

It's 2116 4th - just to the north of the Cinerama.

Skylike can be moved to the completed section now.

1200 Madison (16 stories, ? height, currently on hold) can be added (project site here)

300 5th (in the proposed section) is the same building as 5th and Yesler.

2121 6th (also in the proposed section) is dead. That was the previous proposal for the 6th and Blanchard site.

Oh gawd, I hope this is not being built. Hopefully the rendering on the web site is pre-preliminary.
