ACCs issues isn't open dates, it would be space. There is literally no room in its underbelly for another team. We need to remember that it was built as a basketball arena first with Hockey thrown in last minute with suites tossed in to any spare space they could. It's a congested arena in it's underbelly and would have enough space to host another full time tenant in there for a long duration of time.

The Labour Day Weekend sports ratings are in. Once again an utterly brutal showing for Toronto FC:

Quote:
The Great Canadian Ratings Report: TSN's multi-channel universe good for tennis

The CFL didn't need the extra feeds to produce its usual weekend of big audiences. Sunday's Saskatchewan-Winnipeg game broke the million mark and Monday's Labour Day game in Calgary drew a 15 per cent larger viewing audience than the 2013 game with Edmonton.

On the other hand, maybe Toronto FC needs as many feeds as it can get. Its game against New England on Saturday was seen by only 22,000 viewers on Sportsnet360.

Here are the most-watched sports events on English-language television for the past weekend, according to BBM Canada overnight ratings:

1. CFL, Blue Bombers at Roughriders, Sunday, TSN: 1,144,000

2. CFL, Eskimos at Stampeders, Monday, TSN: 885,000

3. CFL, Argonauts at Ticats, Monday, TSN: 796,000

4. Tennis, U.S. Open, Bouchard vs. Makarova, Monday, TSN/RDS: 755,000

5. MLB, Yankees at Blue Jays, Sunday, Sportsnet: 594,000

6. MLB, Yankees at Blue Jays, Friday, Sportsnet: 579,000

7. MLB, Yankees at Blue Jays, Saturday, Sportsnet: 576,000

8. CFL, RedBlacks at Alouettes, Friday, TSN: 485,000

9. Tennis, U.S. Open, Raonic vs. Nishikora, Monday, TSN/RDS: 448,000

10. Auto racing, NASCAR Sprint Cup, Sunday, TSN: 244,000 (Fox audience not measured)

11. PGA, Deutschebank Championship third round, Sunday, Global: 241,000

12. Martial arts, UFC 177 prelims, Saturday, Sportsnet360: 137,000

13. Soccer, EPL various games, Sunday, TSN: 121,000

14. Soccer, EPL various games, Saturday, TSN: 107,000

15. Soccer, Crystal Palace at Newcastle, Saturday, Sportsnet: 98,000

16. Athletics, Nanjing Youth Olympics, Saturday, CBC: 95,000

I wonder why they combine TSN-RDS for tennis but not for CFL games like Ottawa-Montreal.

TFC continues to be a joke. What else is new. As the team plays itself out of a playoff spot, the whispers of Defoe's departure have become a full blown roar.

This was supposed to be the season in which the Toronto FC would not only make the playoffs, but be a legit contender for the title. Landing several big names in the offseason would supposedly propel the team and MLS to the next level, providing the impetus for even bigger signings in the future. So much for that...

If Toronto once again fails to make the playoffs and loses Defoe (and possibly more) in the offseason, this may very well go down as the most disappointing season in their history. Expect to see a huge drop in ticket sales in 2015 if that happens.

Sooo... at a rugby nationals game today in Calgary, the coach of the Newfoundland team called one of the Asian referees a stupid *extremely racist pejorative* and then went on to insult all of the refs there. What a classy guy.

I don't know bout rugby, but any coach or player that abuses the officials get turfed and suspended for a considerable time

My question is the response warranted?

You're asking if racist comments are warranted?

Oh my God.

I hope he's reported.

People here can be a little politically incorrect but usually in a loving way. Sean Majumder talked about a teacher who called him the P-word for Pakistani, affectionately. And Sean was like... buddy, WTF?

But to do it in anger is always a sign of intentional, hateful racism. That's just awful.

Actually, nothing a referee could do would justify calling him a racist slur. He could have been a dumb referee or even a biased referee, but that shouldn't be associated with his origins. There's nothing that makes Asian referees genetically disposed to this stuff any more than African referees or Inuit referees.

Apparently the Bills will be staying in Buffalo. The Sabres owner (Pegula?) has apparently reached a deal to buy the team.

Good stuff.

On a related note, the people of Toronto should thank the Argos for making sure they've had pro football for the last 140+ years!

How old is Pegula?

Rogers/the Toronto NFL group somewhat shot themselves in the foot with this one. With their "Bills in Toronto" series, they solidified Toronto within Bills territory, and if the Bills are now firmly in Buffalo for the foreseeable future, it makes it much more difficult to make a play on any other team that might relocate in future, at least without a massive payoff to the Bills (by which time LA might have things a little more in order anyway).

Pegula is in his early 60s.

I'd say we haven't heard the end of NFL team talk in Toronto by any stretch, but now things will likely switch to the expansion front.

They've been talking about it since the 70s... It'll definitely continue in one way or another.
