I shopped @ AAA (former Dutch Maid) store lots as did friends family but, we are all pleased to see something far greater & denser arise.Gary retired so no loss of that or nearby structures. This south reach of the Village was in need of something like this year ago so glad it is finally coming to fruition.
The former Dutch Maid building, regardless of how nostalgic it was, had structural issues, was falling apart and was an eyesore. I went to Dutch Maid as a kid teen and when I loved out plenty but this rebirth of that block will be so much more & stimulate more growth.Between this, The Zui & the ugly white 17 floor apartment across , might result in another 1000 people living here. That will greatly help with safety plus retail, eateries having more success with more inhabitants.

More importantly, it could start the traction for redeveloping Confusion Corner since there is new development surrounding it from both sides.

Hell if we’re really lucky maybe it’s the right time to start phasing out all those damn car dealerships and autobody shops plaguing the east side of North Pembina.

Amen to that!
That entire area needed to be bulked up.
Also, Confusion corner reimagined & built upon can spill over to Corydon & possibly South Osborne as well.

Would be awesome if someone opened Dutch Maid 2.0 in one of the retail spaces.

It is nice to see the south end of the strip being intensified. It has always faded off closer to Confusion Corner. Would be good to have it be a strong high street all the way to it.

It’s called nightlife and it’s what happens in dense areas of cities, and if one moves to OV and expects the opposite, they’re either a fool or a suburban type who thinks rolling up the sidewalks at 6pm is something that happens everywhere outside the suburbs.

Agreed Wincityspark, I'm old, seeing the shirtless kid in middle of Osborne challenging anyone to a fight just isn't my thing. 150-230am, it's probably like that then back to normal. Lol

The popularity of bars comes and goes. I do hope that one’s moment in the light comes to an end before construction is done.

Nice.

Whatever happened with the sidewalk closure debacle? IIRC the City didn't want the sidewalk closed AT ALL.

The provision preventing the sidewalks from being closed was put in at Community but axed at Property & Development
