From Chappell Roan to ‘Chapter’ Roan: Waterloo, Ont. library covers popular pop song to promote Summer Reading Club
By Spencer Turcotte
Quote:
July 11, 2025 - An Ontario library has given one of the top pop songs a musical makeover.

Despite being released five years ago, Chappell Roan’s ‘Pink Pony Club’ has taken over the charts.

That inspired the Waterloo Public Library to re-work the lyrics to help promote its Summer Reading Club.

“With the success of Pink Pony Club, I thought, ‘What better song to morph into a library anthem?’” explained Grace Carruthers, a library programmer, who used her musical talents to sing the song and star in the accompanying music video.

The remix has lyrics like, “There’s a special place with books and fun that’s bound to put a smile on your face.”..

Sorry to dominate the thread, but yeah, things are getting exciting in Saskatoon. Central stair/atrium taking shape:

As a new fan of Chappell Roan, I approve

Yeah, it looks like it will be an amazing community asset. Like Calgary's central library it helps keep the bar high for future Canadian city main branch libraries

Depends on the angle and the time of day. At night, with the glass all lit up, it looks much less "chonky" IMO.

I'm not sure what one would call this style, but I like neo-brutalist as a name. Brutalist architecture, when done well, can be amazing. Not to mention how well it performs in our extreme climate (-40 to +40).

The as-built design seems to have lost all of the swooping in the roofline shown in that render (which I think makes it look a bit more imposing and less... playful?)

The rendering shown is the opposite site of the building. It is a bit "swoopier" on the other side I think:

Something about it gives me central China vibes. Can't quite pinpoint what it is...

Those curves though turned out a bit pointier than I expected.

The rendering first shown on the thread from 5 years ago made it look light and airy

At least it's not like Edmonton's central (Stanley Milner) library that looks like The Borg
Although I like EPL's simple and colourful logo
Capilano branch is funky
