The residents should be aware of the future plans for this, as the master planning for this project began years ago. The landlord (NBP?) has the right to evict residents, and I imagine these notices would (hopefully) be well in advance of demolition. In some cases like this, residents will get a buyout if the rent is regulated.

Ah I see that seems fair enough

Staff Report for the hearing currently in progress. There's a lot of opposition.

Any idea where the opposition is coming from? If my memory serves me correctly, there was heavy opposition to The Strand Condos from the American Plaza Condo residents about their views of the river and Mt. Hood being blocked.

Existing residents of the Douglas Apartments; neighbors at the Strand; and members of the Downtown Neighborhood Association generally.

Revised Drawings [PDF], Staff Report and Commission Memo. The revised drawings look like they gave some indication of what's planned for the Phase 1 building, on the site of the former Athletic Club building.

Thanks for sharing, it's great to see more details on this project!

Also, is it just me, or does that photo of the "Flexible and Active Open Area - Tampa, FL" on page 68 look awfully familiar...?

I am really liking how this whole site will fit in better than what is currently there. This will all look like a bigger addition to the Strand buildings. I do wish the original plan from that Norwegian architecture firm would have been a reality, but I am happy with the final result being something like this.

They’re only at the stage of a master plan, with the some concept level diagrams of phase 1.

In addition to the athletic club is this replacing a bunch of existing condos?

^It's an apartment complex, but yes, eventually they will be part of the redevelopment.

No. The first phase of development is on the site of the vacant RiverPlace Athletic Club. Eventually the owners will want to stop renewing leases, but that’s years away.

Ah I see. I guess when we start seeing leases stop being renewed then it’ll be action time

Design Commission just approved the Central City Master Plan (which will almost certainly be appealed to City Council by the Downtown Neighborhood Association).
