Looks like the crane is being installed today or tomorrow. Heavy lift crane is on-site.

The boom seems short. I wonder if there will be two cranes.

Interesting crane - I don't think I've seen the 'movable ballast' before - you can see how lowering the jib moves the counterweights further back.

It's called a luffing tower crane:

Quote:
It's common to have limited space and clearance when working with a tower crane in an urban metro area and downtown work sites. A luffing tower crane is ideal for building projects where there's not much space on either side of the site and you need to work safely. A luffing crane is able to raise or lower its jib, and that allows it to reduce the slewing radius.

A luffing crane is also a good choice for work sites where two or more cranes are working at the same time. This is because the slewing radius is highly reduced in comparison to standard tower crane types. The luffing tower crane also has a higher lifting capacity because the weight is transferred from the crane's jib much more effectively.

I really think that crane is the very luffing tower crane that was used to move material for the library roof that was recently done.

The cab looks different though and seems to be a more lighter lift model.

I equate the differences between the two cranes for the difference in model years. Kind of like a Tesla Model S from 2016 and a 2018 one. Thank you Mcminsen for the side by side picture comparison. This one also took longer to install I think. Glad to see this project continue to move forward. The neighborhood could soon have quite a few cranes which will be nice. (Post, 400 West Georgia, Amazons Dunsmuir one can't remember the address, Vancity Centre 2's Crane, and I think another one just can't remember...)

The crane placement seems to be setup for some idiots to climb it especially with only a blue security fence on that corner.

The address has been changed to 410 West Georgia as per the approval of the form of development.
