They are going quick, if the bigger cruncher were working all day yesterday (repair truck there all day Thursday) I think they would be done today but almost.

Too bad that view is going away, though. There are some neat sightlines in that area.

It's great to see such rapid progress. I really hope they stick with the original implosion plans to take down the office building. We also need some resolution on the FAA decision about the height. There's not a huge difference between 481' and 555'. But 555' will poke through our height plateau.

I think Gensler is starting to present a common theme now that I look at this building. Looking at their proposals for Block 185, the hypothetical hotel next to the fairmont, 600 Guad, the courthouse spot, and now this, all of the buildings have looked strikingly similar, albeit with minor changes around them

I honestly can't see them lowering the height of this building. Remember it was only going to be a few feet shorter than Frost then was bumped up to 555'. It's gotta be around that height.

481' compared to 555' very much make a difference especially when you consider what part of DT this will be built. 555 would be very striking on the skyline as a whole because as Kevin pointed out Its 34 feet higher in elevation than Frost. Even more so compared to the Austonian or Independent so it would go a long way in giving the skyline height variation. 481 is eh... Okay better than a spot on 400 footer but there is no reason why it has to be shortend. I say lets stick to the 555' for now since that is the height that the developer is stating.

If it loses that sloped and lit glass crown, the intrigue of this building will be significantly reduced. Isn’t that document a proposal to the FAA though? If it’s a proposed submittal then wouldn’t that 481’ have been the developer’s discretion. Unless they heard through the grapevine that their building had bearish chances of getting passed without a reduction, then maybe shaving off the crown was the developer’s perogative.

Yikes, I really hope this doesn't lose it's slope.....The skyline really needs to gain it's pointy points back.

The thing is until new renderings are released if they do release some new ones, we won't know if they really have reduced the height. The mechanical roof height was listed as 486 feet, so I doubt they'll need to remove a floor to reduce the height. They'll likely only need a minor change to the mechanical roof - plus the obvious of removing the mechanical screen "slope". That change would likely not require a new site plan or any further permits. So until it's under construction and reaches that height or until new renderings come out, we won't know if they actually have reduced it. And I doubt the media will care to report on such a minor detail and there's no reason for the developer to advertise that they're doing it.

Pins and needles!

That would really suck too because the mechanical screen slope is what makes the building's design astheticly fresh in a city with too many flat roofs. Take that away and it's just another flat rectangle. Like we really need more of those.

That screen is going to be lit, too, no doubt. Without it, I doubt this building will have any interesting lighting.

Great view of the demo at Block 71. I'm getting very excited for this one to start!

Actually, if they get rid of the sloped roof then I'd be hoping for a complete redesign of the building. This building in its current form without that sloped roof would be akin to removing the crown on the Frost Bank Tower and it would completely kill its vibe. Removing the slope would make it look unfinished. Can you imagine if Fountain Place stopped abruptly and didn't end in a sloped roof?
