this method of takedown looks pretty delicate. some hope that they will save the façade along king and hughson

The property did not get an historical designation and demo permits were issued.

Not 100% sure but I believe there was talk of retaining the King St facade in the interim. I do know that renders were circulated with/without it being retained. I'll have to look for the source though.

Have they put up protective fencing or hoardings around the King and Hughson side of the building? If not it can't be a full demo.

SOURCE: this video from Metrolinx where the development is described as 2, 22 storey towers. One condo, one rental

Who knows what will come of this plan - too early to say. I'd be thrilled if they kept the old Kresge's as this proposal suggests they might. I just find the elevation a little too abrupt. More of a setback would be nice.

^Ha.

Okay, perhaps we should completely disregard the image then.

Aww, she shrunk in height. But in a way I'm kinda glad, 34 storey would be quite imposing right next to Gore Park. Two 22 storey buildings is better suited.

I wonder if they'll hallow out the second floor for the old Kresge building. Tall ceilings with lots of natural lighting would be a good selling feature for future retail tenants.

I'm guessing those top three floors before the setback is probably a parking garage?

I remember when we first heard of the development, the towers were originally both 22 floors. We've since seen the new site plan for the 25 & 34 floor towers, and people who have seen the renderings have said the buildings are 25 & 34 floors... Maybe he said two 22 floor towers by accident, thinking of the original proposal?

.....I need full renderings

25 and 34 is what the submission to the City's planning department is.

The clearer renderings are great. I love the detailing above and below the second floor windows, and while the new floors of podium above it are a big contrast I think they work in this case.

Don't care for the white on the proposed towers though. I think it would be better if the colour was more complementary (perhaps an earth tone would work, in the same colour family as the light tan brick of the original building)
