The Tucson streetcar is officially open, so it's coming off the list.

Phase 1 of the DC Silver Line opens tomorrow, and will come off the list then.

Congrats DC! I look forward to riding the Silver Line when I'm back in town for the holidays.

The Woodward Avenue Streetcar (M-1 Rail) in Detroit began construction at 12:01 AM this morning. I suspect we'll see some kind of article on this later in the morning. Because it will also include a full reconstruction of Woodward, including two bridges over I-75 and I-94, it won't be open for two years.

Downtown - Grand Circus Park

M-1 Rail

Midtown - Warren

M-1 Rail

New Center - Amtrak

M-1 Rail

The Midtown rendering's a bit deceptive, as this portion of the line (a third) will be on-wire. The rest, though, will be offwire.

EDIT: July 28, 2014

Removed DC Silver Line phase 1, Tucson streetcar, and Providence Wickford extension.

Added LA regional connector and Detroit M-1 streetcar.

Dallas' DART Orange Line extension to DFW airport opened today, so it's off the list.

What is the definition of "under construction"? The LA Metro Purple line is current doing utility relocation but it is not listed under heavy rail. But the Regional connector is also under utility relocation phase but it is listed under light rail.

Sample of recent construction notices

Regional Connector light rail: http://www.metro.net/projects/notice...tober-17-2014/

Might be a little late to even mention or add to the list (and both small), but, there are two different streetcar lines that have been under construction in Dallas the last 2 years and both are due to wrap up very late this year or early next year.

MATA M-Line Olive St. extension and Urban Circulator Loop. ~1.65 miles
City of Dallas/DART Downtown - North Oak Cliff line. ~1.6 miles

Recent pictures of both:
https://www.facebook.com/Dallas.Stre...55055631191830
https://www.facebook.com/Dallas.Stre...30518526978874

Edited in:
DART LRT Blue Line South Extension to UNT-Dallas. ~2.6 miles
http://dartdallas.dart.org/2014/10/0...ine-extension/

I cannot confirm, however, that anything beyond a ceremonial ground-breaking has happened. If I get a chance, I'll ride that train to the end one day and looksee for myself.

I think the Boston Green Line Extension can finally be added back to the light rail construction list. Work has started on the Phase I widening of bridges that will carry the new line.

Green Line station designs almost final, opening dates slip

The Green Line Extension Working Group met on Thursday and heard some important updates on the project. The good news is that the station designs for Lechmere, Washington St, and Union Square (referred to as Phase 2) are at 90%, and the other stations (Phase 4) are at 60% design.

The bad news is that the schedule has slipped a bit from earlier promises. What we're hearing now:

Phase 2 early construction is now approved to proceed.
Nov 2015: Phase 4 construction begins.
Dec 2017: Lechmere, Washington St, and Union Square stations open. (Formerly estimated for 2016 or early 2017.)
Summer 2020: Other stations open. (Formerly estimated for 2019.)
There was also discussion about the overall cost estimate, sustainability of the project, and Tufts development. Hop over to MGNA for detailed meeting notes.

We should add them if they qualify. Are the Dallas streetcars actual transit operations, or just tourist rides? Usually heritage streetcars are just for tourists.

Chicago needs a Lightrail. Period. We need to connect Navy Pier, Union Station, and Museum Campus with something other than a bus. Rahm needs to just pull the trigger. With the Lucas museum coming in (fingers crossed) and navy pier getting remodeled even more tourists will be going to museum campus and navy pier.

Sacramento's Green Line (starter) has been completed for a while, and the Blue Line extension is still on track to open next fall.

Official ground breaking ceremony for the Purple Line extension in LA is today, but the line had been under construction for about 9 months now.

LA's Purple Line extension Phase 1 has officially broken ground today, and can be listed as under construction. Its heavy rail, and phase 1 will run 3.9 miles from Koreatown to Beverly Hills.

LA's purple line wasn't on the list because at this point I'm mainly relying on you guys to tell me when to update it. Now that you've have, I've added that.

Changes I've just made:
  • Added LA Purple line.
  • Moved the Oakland Airport connector to completed.
  • Modified the listing for Sacramento's light rail, so it only shows 4 miles for the Cosumnes extension.
Please confirm the following is correct: From what I can tell, the 1.1 mile Green Line starter segment was completed in 2012, and further extensions of the Green Line are NOT yet under construction. So for now, I've moved the Green line phase 1 down to "complete" and removed any reference to the Green Line in the construction section, so it now shows only 4 miles (rounded) for the 4.3 mile Cosumnes extension.
  • Recalculated all the nationwide mileage sums. Because of rounding and sometimes forgetting to change them when I changed an item, some of them didn't add up right.
  • Alphabetized the completed section.

Correct Cirrus. The Green Line starter segment did finish a while back and now stops at Towhship 9 in the River District. The rest of the line up though the Natomas neighborhood and to the airport has environmental and engineering documents completed (for the most part), but no funding. RT is looking for options on how best to secure funding.

Came into the thread to move the Atlanta streetcar down to complete, since it's now open.

After seeing Tcmetro's post about Lakewood, I checked that on the front page and discovered the Lakewood line was listed *both* in the construction and completed sections, so I removed it from the construction section.

DC's H Street streetcar was tentatively scheduled to open today, but it's going to slip to January so for now it remains on the list. It will almost certainly be the next thing to come off.
