I want to believe too.

My aunt was CEO of the last textile company in there, on the top floor. I worked summers there in the 90s. The brick and beam and large windows would make for some sick lofts. However the building is a tinder box, 200 years of imbeded textile fibers fill every crack in the wood every hole in the brick. I fear this place will burn down if something does not happen soon. My cousin is also a Hamilton Fire Captain and he told me they are very worried about a fire in there.

We purchased a unit here hoping to move in soon since my SO and I both work in Hamilton...

We may just end up buying a condo elsewhere and selling the one at Beasley if it ever does finish...

How much did you end up paying? If you don't mind me asking

As someone who went through the pre- construction experience with Harry for Stinson lofts.

It is always someone else's fault, and everything costs way more than Stinson expected. This is the type of project the city should have brought in for Brad Lamb, or someone else who has actual financial backing.

So he sold the concept I suppose to an eager bunch who thought they were going into a historic build (maybe low density), then he added a few floors and again sold the new vision to the second group (guessing first group could say hey what are you doing Harry), only to have yet another new vision of something yet to be determined (well not 30 storeys and not likely the most current view). Wonder how many more rounds of visioning he will take to get the density juuuuust right. Feel bad for those eager early ones.

I am a firm believer that you should never buy pre construction condo's. And this is just reinforcing that notion, especially if you are buying from Stinson.

I know a few people that have bought pre construction, and you really really just have to do your due diligence.

Find out how many buildings they've completed. Go visit the developers completed projects if you can and see how the buildings are wearing over time. What kind of retail do they have? Are there lots of units for rent in their completed buildings or lots of owner occupied units? See if any units are for sale in the buildings and check out the interiors. Note anything the owners have had to change, or fix. Don't believe renders. Go to the city and ask to see the plans if they aren't available online to get a clear idea of what the finished building will look like so you aren't surprised.

Almost everyone that lives or has lived in a Stinson building has nothing nice to say, so it's hard to feel bad for these people. They believed his sales pitch without doing any research (plus I'm sorry but who on earth would give someone with this website 500k? http://stinsonproperties.com/ )

Not every builder is bad, but the city really dropped the ball on this one. Stinson barely finished the Stinson School, and Gibson is still sitting with minimal activity on site after how many years? I don't know who the other qualified bidders were but there had to have been a better option than Harry.

I used to think the same way, but I grabbed a Vista unit. Hopefully it makes me some money.

But if I was doing it again and Stinson had stuff on the market.. Stay away!!

They where selling the Beasley Park Lofts at the Home Show in Stoney Creek today. Here is the picture from their display.

A few changes and it could be alright, but I think it looks a bit disjointed where the glass portion meets the brick portion. Should be similar up to the fourth floor then the glass portion above maybe.

Looks like another fairly decent development will get destroyed by mediocrity and downright ugliness. Here's to hoping that Stinson's pyramid of blah will never see the light of day like so any of his other schemes.

I quite like it. Would be nice to see some new designs in Hamilton instead of the usual slab tower.
Great angles on this one. I'm assuming the eastern facade is also angled up in the same manner as the northern portion.

I don't mind the new not matching the old considering the current two old buildings don't match either.
I'm a big fan of heritage buildings with modern additions.

But it's Stinson....not gonna happen

It's disheartening how underwhelming stinson's history has been.

and that tower just looks flimsy to look at. How I wish we'd go back to craftsmanship and not just ikea'esque styles.

At least in their defense they are kinda emulating the style that's already there - just pulling it up so to speak. The side though with the square holes in brick just.. I dunno.. it's very communist building looking to me. As an architect the lack of subtle design just makes me die a bit inside looking at it - esp. considering even the building beside it it's attached to - even stone lintels would make this look a bit better.

Protip - don't make brick buildings without some sort of either layered style in them or stone accent - they just look ugly.

Gross. The Ellen Fairclough building is a disgraceful building in our downtown.

gotta disagree here. I love it. The lines, the angled window frames, the brick.
Yes, the street-frontage is awful, but that's an easy fix. It's colour stands out nicely on the skyline instead of more beige nonsense.

Although I have zero expectations this will be built, I like the design. Would love to see the other elevation views.
