Seems to me the request for big tanker plane water / retardent drops should have come sooner, before the loss of so many homes. The C-130 was dropping water over the South Austin / Oak Hill fire much sooner. Been seeing a yellow chopper with a long snorkle over the Round Rock area every day. I don't envy the fire fighters who are assigned to cut fire lines by hand. Its tough work, I did it on a much smaller scale with the Pflugerville FD during the 90's. God Bless our fire fighters..
The DT pic with the smoke to the east is epic, almost too surreal to comprehend.

A photo from a National Geographic piece titled "Teenage Brains". The photo shoot for this photo and others was done in Austin by National Geographic.

I have a friend coming in from Boston this weekend who loves taking pictures so we are planning on walking around the city with our cameras all weekend. Anyone have any request on places you want to see updated pictures on? I was thinking of making sure to take pictures of the new courthouse and some new stuff on and around campus. Anyone else want to see anything in particular or recommend any new stuff that might be fun to shoot?

A few years back I suggested taking some from the East Side... particularly anywhere from Riverside and all through MLK blvd. I have seen some sweet shots of the skyline around this general area. And you could also take advantage of pictures on new venues or just random pictures of the neighborhoods in E. 5th, 6th, Cesar Chavez, 11th, 12th.. etc. It be nice to see cause we don't see that too often on here. It's mostly pictures from S. 1st, Congress, the drag, the Hillcountry and downtown.

Orion Over Austin

44 hours of Austin. Hope you dig it.

I'm looking to get more perspectives of the town and compiling a collection of Austin time lapse. Any ideas? I need to be able to set up for i a secure area for multiple days and have power.

If it weren't almost impossible, the best view of downtown is from the MoPac pedestrian bridge.

Another almost impossible option is the overlook.

yeah the ped bridge would be great but not for a really long project. I might shoot a shorter one from there just sunrise and sunset.

I would to be worried about movement.

Oh, good ideas. I'll try to get some some of those areas. Also not sure if you have seen them yet or not but has any pictures been posted of the massive rib cages under I-35? They put them up right before SXSW last Spring and I can't remember if anyone took pictures and posted them on here. I'll take some just in case. They are great lights that really open up the parts of East Austin that you are talking about to downtown. They bring the two closer together very well considering the massive highway between them. lol.

Oh, and awesome video Alex! I love watching stars move like that. And the sunsets and sunrises.

YES! YES! YES! That's exactly who it sounds like! Good call. I love Air, just haven't heard their most recent work. I'm into chill music a lot too!! This is the type of music I spent most my times listening to in Austin. Man, I'm sorry guys, I'm so homesick right now I wanna cry. I miss Austin. I miss eating at Wahoo's on 6th, I miss eating East Side Kings, I miss the barbacoa, I miss you all.

Moved into a new office out on 360, just south of Bee Cave. We're on the top floor and have a great view of downtown.

I hope that's not the view from your office because you'll never get any work done.

I set the camera up on my roof with an interval meter triggering the camera every 10 seconds. I had the exposure set up in such a way that when sunset hit it started shooting long exposures of 25 seconds one after another.

I set up up and just let it shoots away. It stops when the number sequence ends so at shot 9999 it's done. Still working out how to make it automatically save to a new folder and keep shooting.

I imported the sequence into premier and dropped the song on it which happened line up almost perfectly (coincidence is always a bonus).

Added a couple of effects to clean things up. Still trying to work out how to get better vimeo output I think I'm going to create a video with 4 times the bit rate to upload and hopefully that will cure the artifacts as it should look a bit better.

The song is Air "new star in the sky" fitting I think. So y'all have good taste imo!

Thanks for the good words!

I'm in 1515, 3rd floor, and see downtown all day. It's depressing, to tell you the truth.

My former employer leased space on the bottom floor of 1515. Of course, no view!
