I've always liked the way the ramp is integrated at Robson Square:

I don't know, the stramps are neat to look at, but as stairs they kind of don't work well, they just seem akward to walk on. The ramp part I'm sure is fine.

yeah, when walking down the stairs part, there's a tripping hazzard.

yeah well, that's kind of true of any stairs isn't it? It's a dangerous world.

I like the stramps! They are interesting to look at and reminiscent of M.C. Escher's work.

As for the convention centre, since it doesn't look like anything i've seen before, there's a real possibility this thing could be an architectural landmark like the Sydney Opera House. I expect once it's finished, people will forget all about those cost overruns.

I've also heard that people will not be allowed to traipse around on it's roof, unfortunately.

Yeah, yeah - but if you look at the outer edge of the ramp part, there's a raised lip - that raised lip is the tripping hazzard - you have to step over it to continue down the stairs.

Bruce Hemstock of PWL Partnership, the landscape architect, said the project team has collected seeds and bulbs for nearly 400,000 plants — mostly wild grasses and grasslike vegetation native to the Pacific Northwest -

"We want a diversity of grasses and plants that will flower at different times, produce different types of seed, and attract different insects and birds.”

A protective layer will keep nature outdoors, and a growing medium 15 centimetres deep will provide a base for the greenery. The sustainable design of the living roof includes drainage and recovery systems that will collect rainwater for irrigation."

Im liking what is there, I still wish something a little more daring had been done with the site, but at least we are getting somehting very nice, just not iconic.
