Kotliz, the info I posted was what I saw stated in public, so that's what I wanted to share. I'm not an insider. Someone who is in this line of work was just kind enough to throw that tidbit out there on another board unrelated to skyscrapers.

I like whichever ones have a boardwalk and something that juts out into the water. I was also wondering if that could be a possible small music venue. Imagine sitting in your canoe/kayak watching a band play on the boardwalk stage. Of course, it would be pretty hot out on the water listening to a concert in the day time. And most people don't go out on the lake in a canoe or kayak after dark.

Aqua is one of my favorite high-rise's in the U.S.!!! However, everything seems to be dumbed-down for Austin. It would be really cool to see a developer finally step out and create something very modern and uniquely aesthetic for Austin's skyline.

The 82-story Aqua was completed in 2009 at a development cost of roughly $475 million ($300 million in construction costs). So, it may be doable here in Austin. Considering the development costs of the W Austin Hotel & Residences, the JW Marriott Austin, and the possible Fairmont Hotel Austin are/were all in excess of $300 million.

That's not entirely true... the JW Marriott was actually originally very dumb looking. Not no more. Also, the Fairmont is going to look pretty slick. It's probably going to be my favorite tower once its finished. 311 Bowie is cool too. Anyway... you get the point.

Very excited that Magellan may invest in Austin. They do signature projects and are well connected to financing. They are a big boy development group. Smart of them to invest in ATX. The dynamics are right.

I'm rarely the person to urge caution, but this a simply a rumor flying around on a lowly message board started by a user who - although smart, capable, etc., has not been here very long - without any independent corroboration.

Settle down. If it happens, it happens. Great! But if it doesn't it won't be a big surprise.

While we may not have top-tier architecture and I wish Austin had more historic buildings, we have a lot of great looking buildings for being a small city. Frost is still one of my favorite buildings and I think the Marriott will be up there. Weird to say considering its a hotel and I am not usually a fan of hotel designs. Also the granite congress buildings have a timeless appeal in my opinion and are great looking smaller office buildings.

I don't believe it is homerism either. I remember being wow'd by the aesthetic of our skyline when I returned to Austin in 2008 and my wife who isn't into skyscrapers has made comments about our buildings and skyline. She puts it as, "Austin might not have one of the biggest skylines, but it's one of the prettiest I have seen.".

I LOVE that building.... it's also smart in that the plates are what is curved... .not the walls or glass! A very efficient design/cost way to get the effect of the building! Smart and cool!

From earlier today, the 10 finalists for the redesign of the Seaholm Intake Facility have been narrowed down to three.

The Judges rated this submittal high for its architectural creative and innovative design solution. The Moses pier, underwater art, use of shell “as is” for art and art boating, just to name a few. The architectural interventions are minimal and demonstrates a sensitivity of the historic nature of the project site. The connection and response to the surrounding development was done with sensitive landscaping alteration. This design evokes many of Austin’s cove valves, including appreciation of art, music, and healthy lifestyle.

Ugh, my proposal didn't make it and it was the best one, even though it wasn't the flashiest. What's worse is that two of the proposals that were picked have freaking swimming pools. That's so bro-tastic. I've lost a little hope for the intake facility, unfortunately. The Gensler one is good. I just think the swimming pool is out-of-place and squanders a good opportunity to have a quality public space. God dammit, Austin.

So Basically it's out of these three? Pity the first two don't really show what they'd do with the building, just a lot of clip-art people looking urban and content. I figured they'd kill the paddle up brew pub. jerks. I'd love to see someone combine the brew pub with the waterfall and the kayak rapids--winner!

The KUT article only showed one rendering for each project. You can go back and click on those hyperlinks I posted above labeled "Page 1" and "Page 2." When those small images come up, place your cursor on it and click again. It zooms way in - so much so that you have to scroll back and forth and up and down to see the whole thing.

Here's screen shots of the BOKA proposal that I resized to fit the screen.

I hope either the Gensler or the BOKA proposal wins. I don't really like the Gumbully proposal.
