Big trucks will continue to rumble through New Westminster.

The Board of Directors at Translink has declined the City of New Westminster’s request to get truck traffic off three major roadways, and deferred a decision on a fourth.

That means trucks will continue to use East Eighth Avenue, Royal Avenue, and East Columbia Street from Brunette to Braid Street.

A decision on Ewan Avenue is pending.

While the board gets where the city is coming from on this, it says giving the city what it wanted would have had an negative impact on the regional movement of goods, and that can’t be allowed.

They're not getting SkyTrain. Bombardier lost that bid to AnsaldoBreda (the company that made Copenhagen's metro).
  • Cars will be 39m long.
  • Stations will be built 74m long. Long enough to double the train length.
  • 89km/h top speed
  • Full automated & elevated
  • Standard gauge
  • Third rail powered

Shares a lot in common with SkyTrain

Well, it wasn't open this morning. I'll check in on it. Last week I asked some electricians installing street lights when completion was. They said August.

Either it's open or a bunch of people on Twitter are lying about using it for no reason.

AM730 said it opened at 11am. Google maps says it's open too.

Rode over it on my motorcycle after reading the posts that it might be open. It is open, glad to have it back will certainly fix the traffic jam that has backed up Cordova St for the last year. The overpass itself is pretty badly finished though, the asphalt isn't great and the concrete deck is quite rough definitely caught me by surprise. Looks like they rushed things at the end and skimped on the finishing.

I guess the Main St construction recently hasn't helped.

Cordova is still 1 lane due to a big pile of dirt, and the busses are still running down Hastings. Other than, everything is open. Hooray

good to see they implemented the bike lane as part of the construction instead of adding it after the fact. Now I wonder if vision will plan on taking out a lane the rest of powell...

Question: what have they done with the bike lane in this picture? It doesn't look straight or flat. It almost looks like they modified it after building it... before the project was even opened.

I'm assuming it is a transit stop. Raised to provide accessible connections from the sidewalk to the stop itself. This is typical on Hornby as well in downtown.

Bruce Constantineau, Vancouver Sun July 31, 2014

"The city has invited offers on 12 parcels of land contained within the Granville Bridge's northeast off-ramp and loop, which will be decommissioned and removed.

The land has a total assessed value of $36.14 million and bids from potential buyers are being accepted until Aug. 15."

======================

Looks like all movements are still retained, so not particularly sad to see them go.

As an aside, this obviously has different zoning, but it's interesting as a point of contrast for the speculated value of the Arbutus corridor (especially considering this is only one offramp, not both).

Well they're going to build a 60-storey skyscraper so the land is probably more valuable

It's not the same quadrant:

http://vancouverhouse.ca/

What is going inside the actual loop is still up in the air.

Just interesting that one offramp (not even both) is valued significantly higher than an entire north-south corridor.
