Yeah, exactly. In Winnipeg, SkyCity by the same developers is only going 1 storey down. Likely due to water table issues, which are high in dt Winnipeg. Bedrock is not very deep though, relatively speaking, for foundations. They are incorporating the parkade to the inside/back alone side of the development. The TNS parkade is going down 2 storeys.

A number of recent parkades have ghone up here, with nothing to shield them. Pretty ugly.

All parking has gone down in downtown for the last several years, except Gardens on Rose which is well disguised.

I count 6 dump trucks. This just tells you how much soil has to be removed. They do not even look close to having completed one level.

I assume they are hauling this out to the Bypass. Does anyone know?

Quick math. They'll be excavating somewhere around 40,000 square meters of dirt. That's over 3500 dump trucks worth of dirt.

At 6 dump trucks a load, assuming 15 min to fill, and 45 min to travel/dump/return (I know nothing of these timings, just guessing!), that's 3,500 hours of filling and dumping. Assuming 10 hours per day, that's 350 days to dig the hole, assuming 1 excavator as they have now.

Hmm ... At 15 minutes per dump truck filling, it would take 90 minutes to fill the 6 dump trucks, so each dump truck can take up to 90 minutes to travel/dump/return to ensure a continuous filling rate of 4 dump trucks per hour.

That means in a 10 hour day, 40 truck loads can be hauled away, meaning it will take 87.5 days, or about 3 months, to clear the volume of 40k cubic metres (I assume that's what you mean, Jiggly, instead of "square meters") or 3500 truck loads, assuming such an excavating rate and barring delays!

Is this what you mean, Festivus?

It'll take longer as they get deeper. Soon trucks won't be able to enter the site, due to the depth. So they'll have to haul the dirt from the bottom via a crane or something, and load the trucks on street. Will take longer than the current method. So might add some time to your approx. 3 month timeline.

Also not sure how their shoring is set-up. Seems quite deep for soldier piles and timbers. But I'm no structural engineer. Might have some influence on excavation timeline.

In some of the pictures posted a few weeks ago they had two on site. Not sure why they took one away.

I thought 40,000 m3 seemed high but I double checked and using google maps for distance and assuming 50ft deep I get roughly the same number.
Assuming 12yds per load that is about 4,360 truck loads. (yes I converted meters to yds)

Vancouver's Private Residences at Hotel Georgia (Rosewood Hotel Georgia) took about a year to complete excavating 50 m deep (according to info provided from the link) for its foundation (deepest excavation in Vancouver, due to the small footprint size of the 48-floors project, to accommodate all of the hotel/residences/business office parking) and constructing an 8 level underground garage structure from about 2008 to 2009. According to posts on "The Georgia" section in this SSP forum, excavation took about 6 or 7 months -- from about Apr/2008 to Sep/2008 -- and reached grade by May/2009. PRHG was essentially complete 3 years later.

I imagine CP will be digging deeper than 50 ft (15 m) for its foundation, maybe not as deep proportionally to the HG project. I don't know how much the differences in foundation construction between each project would affect CP's timeline, as HG's foundation is probably anchored differently than CP's. But CP's foundation is significantly shallower than HG's so hopefully they can complete CP up to ground level within the year, and start building above ground soon after that!

Alternatively, they dig a 50ft hole and abandon it after people don't flock to the project.

When I walked by in the early afternoon, I thought both were going, mind, I didn't watch too long.
