Well I think there will be about two or maybe three more jumps. Depending on the height of the steel.

The roof has to be built and supported before the pre pieces are placed.

I know Alan said the columns extend to 1,244' 4" but I'm still not convinced, even after seeing the recent pics from the Carlos cam. Those columns look too long to be just 30 feet plus the splices.

I'm seeing one more steel jump, then in the jump after that they'll put the cap pieces on the converging sides (which will be the roof), then one more after that to the top of the parapet.

Sound guess?

Aaaaaaahhhhhhh omg this is so exciting!! we're definitely ahead of schedule especially the fact that they said 4-6 weeks to pass the ESB AND they're putting the base cladding on soon...isn't it possible to top out in April? And DAMN look at 4 WTC! It's really grown plus it beginning to show on the skyline.

I agree with you, I'd say it will top out in Mid-Late April. Also, I figure there is only two jumps left, and the collums for those will be huge.

Or maybe they were rookie crane operators and had to ceremoniously "walk the plank" to the end of the crane at that height! Lol, that would rock (and suck) at the same time.

Inspections and maintenance are done routinely. Every 30 days an independent crane inspection firm inspects the 1 WTC tower cranes such as last weekend when hydraulic oil was also changed out.

PS- Twr 4 has submitted the paperwork to install another Favco 760 to replace the crane involved in incident so keep an eye out for that as the two towers race to topping off.

*I* can say that for sure. Because I actually went to NYC and actually saw 1 WTC close up.

I'm actually a little sad I wasn't around yet when the original twin towers were being built in the late 1960s... I know they had a ton of controversy surrounding them beforehand, during and after. But there was no denying that it was history in the making even then when they were being built!

I did too because I went in August 2011 and saw it up close in reality, just when it was slightly passing WTC 7. I laugh at myself sometimes because I remember thinking it was "SO TALL" when I was there.. Now it's like almost 1,250 ft in the sky.. Bahaha! I can't even imagine what I'm going to be saying when I go back and see it completed. I remember looking at the tip top of the spire on the 1,200 ft Bank of America Tower and saying, "Geez, that is so high!"
And yes, It would've been cool to see the originals rise up in the late 60's, but it's a new generation and party.

Lol, I totally agree! My last visit was a month after you were there - September 2011. It was past the 80th floor then, and I thought the same thing then... Wow, it's so tall! (Then I saw the ESB later, up close... I had been to NYC prior to my last visit, but had not seen the ESB up close... Then I thought to myself, "Wow, the ESB is massive!") I would literally hurt my neck with how much I had to look up to see all of 1 WTC. I can't imagine it *right now* at the point that it is at, nor when it's done - that will be simply mind-boggling, for sure! I bet it will be like when people would stand in between the original towers and take a picture of them with the camera pointed straight up. You could feel your neck aching just looking at these pictures.
