Wow...some sobering statistics:

5 of 37 units closed at The Mansion
16 of 53 units closed at St. Regis
1 of 74 units closed at W Downtown

This morning they were delivering more heavy equipment to 999 Peachtree. The north side of the site is all torn up. Maybe the retail expansion is finally happening? Or maybe just wishful thinking.

The work at 999 right now is to create a new valet area/entrance. They are also creating a new "conference center," tenant fitness center, and starting work on Hugh Acheson's new restaurant Empire State South. I don't think that what they are doing right now is related to the 3 story class renderings we saw a couple of years ago--don't know if that's still in play.

I think you're right. I was told the new glass retail space on the corner won't be built until they find a big deal tenant for it when the economy improves (can anyone say Apple?!). That's why they leased the old Grape space to a temporary tenant, the art gallery.

Proposed Atlanta terminal advancing at DOT

By Ariel Hart

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A proposed mass transit terminal in downtown Atlanta may get a boost at the state Transportation Board’s monthly meeting Wednesday and Thursday. The Department of Transportation, working to build the station as a public-private partnership, is expected to officially suggest the project to developers and ask interested companies for their qualifications...

I'm sure everyone here has heard that Renaissance Walk on Auburn Avenue has been foreclosed.

Due to the project's proximity to GSU and its dorms, I wonder if GSU has considered buying up the property and converting it into new dorms. Either that, or the new owners should lease apartments at relatively affordable rates so GSU students can live there. I know many students, including myself, who would jump at that opportunity.

My understanding is that what is being proposed will involve a 20 story, 400,000 square foot office building that would house the Georgia Department of Transportation and Marta and a seperate residential tower ,in addition to a transit station geared to a multiple of types of transit operations.

The primary hold up would be the residential tower because of the current credit crunch. Given the proximity of Georgia State and the Atlanta University Center, student housing may be an option. Hopefully, a developer or developers who have some experience and expertise in mixed use, transit oriented development can be found for this project but I do not hold out ANY hope for an architectually significant project. In Georgia style is used primarily as a verb.

I would trade architectually significant for mass transit significant. In other words, I'm more interested in the terminal and the plan for putting in platforms for future mass transit options.

does this put the vision of having a "rodeo drive" in buckhead in jepardy
if so was that just a pipe dream of the times or does buckhead need a center piece like that to compliment its current image.
